What causes rad shroud cracking on atc250r's ? Over torquing or accidents, vibration maybe. Anybody know the correct torque value.

Too many variables there. But here are a few
Over torque, age of shroud, boot getting hooked on while riding

ive blown through 3 left side shrouds, while the right side shroud has stayed just fine. i have correct OEM hardware and dont over torque.
it just happens if you ride often enough, or hard enough. boot hooking on the bottom corner is one of my issues.

Another reason for cracking is the lack of OEM washers on the bolts. The OEM washers have a little shoulder on them to prevent the shroud from getting pinched by over-torqueing bolts.
...boot hooking on the bottom corner is one of my issues.I used to have that same issue, until I bought my second set of OEM shrouds. Before I installed them, I heated up the lower corners (right below the bottom shroud-to-tank bolts) with a blow dryer, bent in the corners, and let them cool. The corners stay bent in and don't catch on my boots anymore. Still, over 20 years later, that bottom bolt hole has cracked. The bolt is still in there for cosmetic reasons, but it is no longer securing the shroud.

thought about trying that. the last shroud i installed was nice and flush with the tank. thought i wouldnt have any issues. it lasted about 3 months.

Riding boots get stuck on them all the time. Mine are cut straight on my race shrouds at the bottoms to prevent it. Over tightening probably does some in also

Use blue locktite take them down tell they touch the plastic and stop . Works good on a Honda and is a must on a tecate.
