A year ago I moved the 200X to the back yard and began teaching my son this day how to use the hand clutch. We started of in first and he killed it a few times, Then after me mastered that, I had him move on to second gear. Then after that, I had him feel for neutral between first and second. He went real slow. A few days later, I took him to the mountains and encased a helmut to his head and away he went. He hand clutched real well now. He has driven it many miles now. We have 2-300EX's also, so he gets to drive them to. I keep telling him that someday, the 200X's are his.

That's really cool!

I actually learned on an XR200 - almost the same thing!

It's great to teach him to ride.

Now you can teach him that young inexperienced, lightweight riders should ALWAYS wear a helmet, no matter if putting around the yard or where he is. ESPECIALLY when he's learning how to use a clutch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much can go wrong.
