Well we went riding this last weekend up at the property. Its Canadian shield terrain lots of rock , sand & deep mud holes with plenty of steep ascents and decents. There were 8 trikes ,two bikes and a quad. Good time only one 185s had to be dragged out. We did about 80 km. All the three wheelers were out of brakes half way through the ride which makes it interesting. The trikes were all utility trikes 185's , 200's, 250sx.My brakes were new at the start on my 250sx and my 200s. Does anybody have any suggestions for a quality shoe or any other tips on making them last a little longer other than not using them.
I was considering converting the 200s to rear disc

We have the same problem with our 250es's I haven't found a set of shoes that last in mud but it more likely the drums are getting fuel of mud/water that is what causing the problem.
I have a similar problem with my 85 big red. It has newer rear shoes but you have to max out adjustments just to get a good pedal feel. im thinking worn drums. had a similar problem with an 86 200sx with rear drum, ordered a low hour drum off of ebay and a new set of shoes and back in business. my 13 year old cousin puts its through all kinds of terrain including water and mud and rear brakes still work great.

Ya thats definitely the cause. Ive been running brakes from royal distributing (not exactly quality). Was hoping someone knew of a good brand that might last longer. These are around $20 a set

OEM or EBC sintered metal. Keep those enclosed drums as tight and clean as possible.....

Look guys, when the inside of the drums are worn out, doesn't matter how quality the brakes are. You either need to find brake shoes with thicker linings or drums that are not near as worn. I don't know if you adjusted brakes during the ride or not, which I hope you did. Only other suggestion might be to weld inside your brake drums or "flame spray" material to the inside if possible and turn them back down to "specs".

Ya adjusted while riding. In side drums looks good and cant be worn to large or the shoes wouldnt wear all the way out, would they?
