Recoil Starter Question

Is an 83 185s recoil starter weld able? I want to get a spare empty recoil case and see if I can weld something on the housing that will allow me to make a water tight seal where the rope goes in and out of the housing. Sport that pot metal collar and the honda pull start handle don't cut it. I get water in my case often.

It is not very thick. Probably better to braze it.

I actually welded it today. I used a hobart 125ez flux core. The case is 14ga thick. I ended up just welding the collar to the case and it did great. No warpage at all and I didn't blow through it with the welder although I did get close. It's gonna work perfect now. And yes the welds don't look that great but it's solid and water is not gonna get in the housing now. I havnt been welding very long haha.
