I know that with a welder a torch that anything could be made to fit but I was wondering if anyone knows how much fab work it would take to put an 01 yz 250 motor into a tri z frame or is it even possible thanks for any info

I've wondered about this for years. I know that the motors up until about '86 or 87 were a direct bolt in. However you have some pipe clearance issues with the powervalve cover on the YZ engine. I bolted my '86 motor into my '86 Z no problem.
However I think by 2001 they changed up the bolt locations on the casing. I am sure it can be figured out. You just need to create some brackets.
Go for it...but the only way to know for sure is to buy a YZ engine and try.
If someone did this then you its probably something you can work around with the two stroke engine:
196614
Also the 01 YZ engine made about 43 to 46 HP. That's way more than a stock Z.
