I know there have been many threads on this but it's not really what's causing no spark but I can't figure out how to test all the components I have the ohm meter pictured below and I need to know what places the leads should be in and what setting it should be on to test the coil, pulse generator, spark advancer, and cdi? I also don't have a tail light or headlight would this cause any problems? I have spent all day on this and I have made no progress at all so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

95% of the time it's the stator , I probably change about 30 every year threw my shop .
They can be bought on eBay for less than 10.00 .

so do I need the primary stator coil or the actual stator itself?? do you have a link to one on ebay?? and how do I test it or is there no need?

ok I have been looking at it again and my readings with the multimeter are all over the place and I pulled the cover off and which coil do I need the larger one the smaller one or both??

I can do anything mechanical but electrical drives me crazy!!

Smaller coil the large one is for lights . I don't even bother testing them anymore lol . When a 200cc Honda comes threw the shop with no spark it gets a new stator and like I said 95% of the time that's the problem and for less than 10.00 bucks .......

Ok I got my ignition coil and pulled off the side cover and the wire is soldered on so do I just cut that and re solder it on to my new ignition coil??

Yes it will need to be soldered .

Ok in this picture where do I solder it on the little bit of metal out the middle of the coil or near where the end of the coil??197119

The middle tab is where you solder the wire-not the end like the OE. Make sure the wire is out of the way of the flywheel so it dont rub thru the wire.

Ok I did that and I still have no spark and when I put a test like on the red and black wire and to the motor the light doesn't light up but then when I put it on the yellow wire to the motor the light lights
Up!! What have I done wrong??

Should be fine now?.....did it run for you before & it just happened? -or did you just get this 200x this way? Disconnect all the wires from the switch and try again. Did you look over the wiring/plugs? Check coil wire end too. And try a new sparkplug- if you havent?

Mike- do you stick to those Emgo ones? I never had any of them cheap replacements work for too long???:wondering

I got this bike off a guy that pulled it apart to restore but he never got the chance so it sat for 10 years until I got it I'm really starting to think its the CDI and let me tell you the wiring leaves much to be desired!! But I will go check it out tomorrow!!

changed the cdi and still no spark!! im starting to get pissed I have been through the wiring diagram a million times and it all seems decent i have tryed 4 different coils!!anyone have anymore ideas??

I know its electrical Jake but pictures would help. Flywheel, stator, advancer, cdi, ign coil, spark plug wire, spark plug. These are the things that make it spark. One of these things is not correct, not functioning properly or is incorrectly installed.

Be sure to use the correct terms when discussing electrical issues. Earlier you referred to your stator as an ignition coil. This can get confusing and messy very quickly.

How are you checking for spark? Plug against head? Try unscrewing plug cap see if spark from plug wire to ground make sure ignition coil is grounded good and kill switch is disconnected or is working correctly

A repair manual will tell you how to check your electric system. Where did you buy your cdi? I've bought cheap cdis and coils off of ebay and even thought they looked like the original, they had different ohms readings. I now always check them as soon as I get them. Just a suggestion.

here are some pics if you need any more close ups i can get them!! also is there meant to be oil under the stator cover because some bikes have oil in there and some don't and im not sure if it should or not...

did you unplug the kill switch and try?

I did but I will double check again to make sure!!

Unplugged the kill switch still no change dead as a door nail!!

do you have power coming out of the stator? do you have power going to the coil? did you unscrew the sparkplug cap from the coil wire and test for spark there? sometimes the cap looks like its on, but isnt screwed into the wire, so no spark.

with that much oil in there, id clean all the surfaces in there. clean the coil trigger. that rides on the outside of the flywheel, that rides on the external magnet of the flywheel.

Ok when I put the multimeter on it does get power but i have no idea if its enough! and i have not checked the coil...I have not pulled the cap off but I have tried 3 different coil and none made a difference but I will pull the cap off and try it...and I will clean the flywheel and get back here!!

id put a test light on the wires going to the coil, and see if you have spark to the coil

I put a test light on ad kicked it over I have power from the yellow wire but none from the red and black!!

upon further inspection of your pictures. pictures 2 and 4 both show the same green wires. are they spliced there or something? it looks like 1 or 2 wires might just be hanging and not attached?? idk what those would be for

and red/black, is that the same wire coming from the new piece you soldered in? if so is it even making contact??

jakep53

Ok for some reason the new 'thing' i soldered doesn't work so I put the old one in and it actually lights up the light now but beyond that I don't know where to head to now!!

You might want to inspect your spark advancer. I know when my 200m wasn't giving me spark I checked and cripple the checked everything but it. After I got a new advanced low and behold I had spark.

How would I check it the manual just says to check the gap??

Don't give up Jake. Once it sparks you'll have learned a lot.

i'm not givin up if I gave up my old man would kick my ass!! haha
But I think he is losing his patience to because he has taught me everything and can't teach me how to fix it we're both as clueless as each other when it comes to electrics!!

i would just start from the beginning. run a test light right off the stator. then to the very first plug it plugs in to, then to the next plug and so on. gotta be something simple like a broken or unattached wire some where.

I really wanna get a repro harness off ps2fixer? i'll be workin on it tomorrow so I will update this and hopefully I can achieve somthn!!

just looking at pic 4 you posted have you tried grounding the coil on the side without a bolt? see a ground strap there not sure if there is one on the other side might also try to measure flywheel inside and stator OD to verify size as PO may have swapped with something different
