speed question

My buddies 82 185S is faster than my 1984 200ES.. is this normal?

off the line my 200 jumps ahead of his 185.. but once we hit 5th.. he blows by me!

We figure its cause I weigh 40 pounds more plus the 200ES is 80 pounds heavier.

The weight difference is definitely part of it, plenty of little things play effect too like what size and kind of tires you are using. Also shaft drive loses you some top end speed.

This is the same buddy that can do wheelies when you can't right? I'm starting to see a pattern here. The issues may just be the connection between the thumb on your right hand and the things dangling from your groin.

Weight is a BIG factor. You only have a few cc's on him + the shaft gearing is way different than a 185 chain drive. The 200es is designed as a ute as well. Two completed different animals.

There's nothing wrong with your Big Red. On it's best day with a tail wind, I think my '84 MIGHT hit 45mph or so....

The 200es was not designed for speed and sport riding....

185s are faster than a 200....and has a better cam.

More displacement does not equal faster. Plenty of small motors can stomp a mudhole into its larger brethren. Way to many factors to give bigger pistons all the credit

Yeah I can hit 46 MPH..

he can do 50!

BUT I consider mine pretty good for weight and size diff

My 185s would hit 50 before I regeared it. 200e has a lower gear ratio to take advantage of torque because it's a utility bike. 185s is a lighter sportier bike so they put a higher gear to give it more top end.

get a kawasaki 185 and rip him a new one

Just do a xr200 top end swap you will leave him then.
