I was lookin at these for my R. ....... & Im aware it probably doesnt NEED it-& barely noticeable when mounted-BUT:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-ATC-250R-250-R-ATC250R-ALUMINUM-ALLOY-RADIATOR-85-86-BRAND-NEW-1985-1986-/261484488899?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ce1b0a8c3&vxp=mtr
They seem to be sold under many of different brand names but all appear alike. Anyway, How many have tried them? Ive seen earlier threads on them but not much feedback.
Extra cooling is a big benefit.-If it works?-Does the extra capacity cause an issue by itself? (too open-affecting flow)? They are slightly taller top/bottom apparently..I saw a thread where the radiators hits the his FMF pipe -but I have a DG. And the extra height makes removing cap impossible without removing shroud (I'm OK with that part). Any others here tried them out????They look well made? $140 + OR -.................... I am amazed how reliable the stock rads after so many years really..

A few years ago I corresponded with a guy from china about making rads for ATC250r and some for Husqvarna dirt bike models. I ended up sending some decent cores to him and the rest is history. Not to brag too much but I think I started a lot of these. He ended up working for someone else and the word was out to mass produce them. I put a set of Chinese HD Hon 450 rads on a big bore i have (+400cc 250r max temp 190°) and other than modding to fit/work and my accidentally damaging one, getting it epoxied yes it holds fine, they seem to work for me. Hotter than hell Phx AZ. (note: the right epoxy from local rad shop helps.)

That was probrably my thread about them hitting my pipe. They seem to be made o.k. If I wasn't having heat related problems I would rather have the stock rads. I don't think they made a whole lot of diffence in cooling, maybe 10 degrees or so. If you are running an oem cylinder I think they would be a waste of money. The ESR 330's like mine run pretty darn hot and I need all the cooling I can get. The 330's are also taller than a stock cylinder, so that might be why my pipe hits the rad.

Hmmm......Not sure if the correct wording is lost in translation -but it says $80 "a piece"(meaning 1 radiator)-not a set. I've seen some sold that way on EBAY.

Good info-...10 degrees is something at least.

SOooo- Who else has tried them-I would think there are more of you that have?.....Does anyone else have any feedback on these for a ATC 250R? I'm on the fence on this -I see a lot of fitment issues for these -(but on other ATVs & SxS). I think some might be selling factory BLEMS at same price? -IDK.? Or are they all equal? Is there a certain one someone has tried?? Ready to buy but dont want to buy something thats practically not useable. Not sure which one to go with- theres alot of them on EBAY with different names but all look identical?-Help!

Did you ever purchase a set? My R runs hot in the winter so coming summer I'm a little skeptical

I bought a set for my 86 Tecate, I'm still waiting for them to arrive. I may get a set for my Tri Z depending on how I like them on the Tecate. The prices are lower from other sellers but end up the same after shipping. I'll post some feedback after I get them.

Cool, I have a Tecate and Z and I'm also thinking about getting oversized rads so let us know how it turns out. I don't have a problem with overheating so much as heat fade on both machines. When they get too hot the hp drops so I'm looking to drop the temp a bit. I'm not too impressed with the tig welding by the looks of the pictures but the price is nice. I spent $400 for PWR rads years ago before they stopped making them.

I put a set on Whiskey Bent. My critique of them is this. No 1. If they had made them 1/4" shorter at the top, it would be easier to get the radiator cap off. No 2. Since the outer frame material is thicker than the stock tin frames, the mounting grommets would be easier to install. I cut my grommets in half rather than fighting with trying to stuff the grommets through the hole. I think these radiators should come with properly sized mounting grommets. I also had problems with the aftermarket silicone hoses. The long one that goes from the top right to the lower left radiator was too short. I ended up using the long OEM hoses and the silicone short hoses.

Thanks for that feedback flyingw, you didn't happen to put a temp gauge on whiskey bent did you?

I installed a set on my 330 build... I was able to get the grommets in, they don't take long after you get the hang of it. I also have the problem of getting the cap off, just something you gotta deal with if you want to have a better cooling ability.

No Sam, I didn't install it this time. It should go on the short hose between the water pump and the back of the head but there isn't enough room.

Should it not go on your coolant line from the top of your head to the left rad? That way you know the temp of the coolant coming out of the water jacket?

Yes that is correct but placing the gage so it doesn't interfere and still being able to read it is the problem with those temp gages on the R.

And those gages are known for not being all the accurate. Trailtech I think has a digital one. It has a temp bulb built in to it and it sends the temp via small wire to a display much like their hour meters are. I considered one of those but that will have to come later.

yeah i've got a KOSO digital temp gauge, very accurate and reasonably priced

The 86 Tecate Aluminum Rads arrived today, I placed them next to one of my frames for a look. They match up to the frame ok. I will pull the grommets on & dry fit them for a better look tomorrow. They are slightly longer than the stock Tecate rads.
It will be a while before I assemble my Tecate build so this is all I have for now:

The brand I bought was GPI Racing. I'm pretty sure all these aftermarket radiators are made by one or two Chinese manufactures.

I know this is an old thread, but the stock 250R cooling capacity its 1.4 US quarts. These radiators claim to have + (30 percent) more capacity. That would =
1.82 US quarts. Has anybody actually confirmed they are indeed larger capacity?
Edited for update. I installed a set of GPI radiators. They held around 2 ounces more than the stock radiators. They fit perfect, not sure if I got lucky but the grommets and brackets all fit just like the originals. I did notice a good 20 degree drop in temps with the ESR330.
