View Full Version : How much is this tecate worth?

I found a kxt250 tecate 3 for sale for $400. The engine has been out of it for 6 years. The guy said it ran when he took it out but the kick start rod broke. Let me know if $400 is a good price and worth it because the guy lives 2 hours away.

It's all what it's worth to you, but I'd probably offer $250. Too many unknowns. I got mine, which admittedly needed work, in running condition, for $500.

I got one exactly like that for half that much.

Like Frankencelery says....It`s about wether or not it`s worth it to YOU.

I`ve noticed that trike values are regional and are drastically different in value depending on where in the US you live and wether or not they are common in the area near you. Here in KY, a Tecate is rare as hen`s teeth and I drove to Indiana to score mine. I`ve never seen a KXT for sale anywhere around me except Nashville Tennessee.

Is there $400 in parts there? probably, yes......so I don`t think you would be getting ripped off at that price but I would offer less. It`s going to be an expensive project and you don`t want a high initial cost.

Or maybe you just dont clutter Trikesylvania with all these open ended "should i buy it" threads.

Its a 3 wheeler, yes you should buy it. Get it as cheap as you can. Here's my opinion.....If you dont feel like you're stealing it, then its probably not a good deal.

If you are trying to make a couple hundred on a bike, you're losing time and money with this process.

Sounds like someone didn't drink their coffee this morning.....

@niftylittleguy Don't worry about what he said. I asked a similar question before I bought my latest on. I was curious about how much it was worth to people who knew three wheelers.
I came across an '83 250R and the guy wanted $350 for it. It was running but beat up pretty bad. The tank was clean but all the plastics are gone. Looked like someone rolled it good.... Was I going to buy it no matter what they said? Yes. But I asked the question anyway so I could get a feel for how much it would be worth once I put it back together. I ended up paying $200 for the bike. My first one was an '86 250R. it was a basket case with no motor. I paid $50 for it. Then I sank about $2,500 into it and now it is a clean runner.

To answer your question....
ironchop and frankencelery are right. It is worth it if you think so. Loball the guy and see if he budges on his price. the tank looks pretty beat up and it is in pretty sad condition. But.... If you want to buy it in order to save it and ride it.... do it.... If you are looking to make money on it by putting it together.... look somewhere else..... If you just want to buy it so you can part it out? well you could probably make a little money on the deal. But it is all up to you and what your intentions are. Me? I would buy it and save it from the scrap heap. But that is me. I am not looking for the resale but the enjoyment of saving it so that it lives on.....

LOL you are exactly right, I'm totally out of coffee, ran out yesterday...that's some funny stuff:D

Still think "should i buy it" threads are a waste, and that they actually belong in another forum. Every once in a while i understand. What irks me is that people interpret this as a potential new trike ownership for a member, when likely, with that many "should i buy it" threads, he's just fishing most of the time. Since I DO care that the members here get good deals, sure, I look at the threads. But when its "do you think i can make a hundred dollars on this" then it was a waste of my time. For god sake if I posted every trike deal I did, this board would be a fricken mess, and I'm a small timer compared to many here.

Surely the next post is one from nifty saying that he's looking at this one for himself. And all the others too?....

End Rant.

[QUOTE= my 250r 1.5k and faster and more fun @ Glamis then dorky quad.......having more fun for less money priceless ! Making a living buying and selling 3wheelers......i`d make more holding up a sign on freeway ramps begging for $:Bounce:Bounce:Bounce:crazy::Bounce:Bounce:Bounce :Bounce[/QUOTE]

I would have to say that depends on the quad.... I have a trx450r that would show you the rules..... But your right about the less money part. I have about $2,500 into my '86 250R and it's a blast to ride.... especially in Glamis....

i`d make more holding up a sign on freeway ramps begging for $Unfortunately, this suggestion is probably more lucrative than half of the jobs that are held by most of "us".

But saying that "3 wheelers are a poor investment" is almost the same as saying " I dont know how or am not talented enough to make a good profit doing this, so I assume noone else does either."

AHHHHHH, those blasted opinions.
