Honda Fat Cat Interchangeable Parts to an ATC?

I am looking at getting a Honda Fat Cat. I was told many of the Honda ATC parts are interchangeable with the Fat Cat. I know the Fat cat has 199cc motors. Does anyone have any insight on this? How rare are these bikes? Thanks

I am certain that none of the parts interchange with ATCs. Nothing is the same.

Hmm, I am nervous about pulling the trigger on this bike because of lack of parts. I was hoping parts would match up.

It's about as rare as the 200x's on craigslist, you can prolly swap over the lug nuts, valve stem caps, and a hand full of other nuts n bolts. ;)

I think alot of the engine parts interchange with the TRX200 quads. look through partzilla.com and click the part number to see what all what all else the part was used on.

Do your research before you do purchase, or you may be able to tell owner of parts rarity and he may drop price!!!

Well, prices seem any where from $1000-2600 or a complete running bike. This is a running bike apparently. pictures show a really dirty bike that would probably clean up nicely. Just has a cracked rear fender.

A decent, running 200 with a missing back fender I was going to buy for $700. They are not that rare but you don't see them often. Kinda like 3 wheelers. Price what you will need to replace before you buy, educate yourself. Vintage plastics can be expensive.

Now if you see a 350 big wheel or fat cat for a low price, those are a bit more rare. They bring in the money.

Everything minus fenders,seat,tires,headlight bezel are not replaceable. Engine and everything else can be replaced. If I can't replace parts I usually won't buy it.

DC plastics sells a plastic kit for the fat cat, I don't know if he sells the parts individually... but you can ask.

They are just cool. They are not "performance" machines but they will get you anywhere and are cool nonetheless. You will turn just as many heads riding that thing as you will a trike. I don't think it's necessarily choosing one over the other, it's just purchasing a new toy.

I have never ridden one but I would get one if the wallet was willing. But then again I ride alone 95% of the time and cruise trails and putt around. So it would fit me well. I couldn't say I would keep it for long, but it would be something I would like to own and experience at some point. But that's just me.

I had one that I rebuilt from the frame up. Split cases and everything. Original tires in great shape, plastics (except rear fender, that was a DC), etc. Very nice shape. I am pretty sure not much will swap over to an atc and vice versa. Maybe some front end parts?

They are really cool, But very awkward handling machines. Every time I rode it for long periods it was more work that anything, much prefer a dirtbike or trike. So my wife rode it for a few years and then we decided to get rid of it since it just sat. Would have loved to keep it but I feel machines should be ridden and I wasn't into riding it that much.

Not to disagree with the others but there are parts that interchange with the 86-87 200x. The complete top end for 1. The only difference that I know of is the decompression is a manual lever on the Fatcat and is automatic on the 200x. If you want to get technical, I would bet there are several individual internal motor parts that will also swap even though the 200x is kick only, manual clutch and a 6 speed. The 86-88 TRX200sx will also share motor parts with it and may share more because it is also auto-clutch and electric start. Bearings etc too. I believe Clarke started make new plastic tanks for them too. DC makes all the plastic. Can still get air filters, bearings and brake pads. I see no reason not to get a Fatcat. FYI - I now own both a 1986 Fatcat and a 1987 200x - neither are my first of either. I hope to be able to add more to this list as I'm looking to replace the Fatcat front end with a 200x - I see nothing so far that will prevent it.

I have an 87 FatCat picked up cheap at a moving sale. Installed a new Chinese carb, tank cleaned and new fuel petcock (uses the Honda Rebel petcock) now it runs great. It does tun a little funky at slow speed, I think it has a too much rake in the front fork but no big deal.
Great trail bike on the desert sand.
