Changing oil filter on Big Red

Do I have to change the oil filter on myt 85 Big Red every time I change the oil? I know some people change oil every 4 gas tanks, but that's a lot of filters! Is it o.k to change it say 3 times a year, but not every oil change. I drive A LOT, many miles running my trap line everyday.

My fahter-in-law has a 250ES and I check the filter every time, and only change it a couple times a year. I chage it when it looks like it is going bad.

You can get the filters that are reusable. They are made to be rinsed out. You could get away with changing them less often as long as you don't use fram or Wal-mart special filters that rate extremely low on tests.
