Well guys I can't seem to find very much information enywhere I look. I am in need of building a leak down tester for my 2 stroke motors. I am looking at all these designs. And wonder If I would just be able to pull the schrader valve in my compression tester screw that in. Block the exhaust port off and place an end cap with a shrader valve in my exhaust port. Would this work? Just trying to firugre out which way need to go.

You can do it your way but I would not use a gauge that measures up to 250 psi because it is not sensitive enough. You also only need around 9 psi of air. if you overfill much, it might damage the seals.

You can also get the parts shown in this video at the 27 second mark.

You can use an expandable rubber plug with a clamp on the intake boot also. You do not need a solid plug.

There are 2 used testers on ehay now for under $20.00. You will need the spark plug fitting.

yuuuup. you need a low pressure gauge to tell you whats up.

i built mine out of a pvc cap, a shrader valve, a low pressure gauge, and a cheap expanding rubber plug i found in the plumbing section. worked perfectly

Here is a great write up from Billy Golightly.

194038This is what I did went to home depot and I did take an intake manifold. But went into water heater dept. and bought this water heater pressure tester and than went to plumbing dept and bought threaded pvc inserts to fit my application ATC and TRX 250R. When I got home use teflon tape to seal threads and then went to o reilly and bought a temporary freeze plug. Works really well considering I only spent $8 for my leak down tester and buy a $1 spray bottle fill with water and soap, good luck. 194037194036

Thanks for the good information. I dont want to wait for a leak down tester to show up in the mail. I am building the motor this weekend and want to get everything done right away so I can get it back in the bike and ride. Thanks Marty, I think I will be building one the way you did. Just need to get some measurements before I leave to the city tomorrow. Hopefully I ca figure out this motor out.

Picked up everything I need for the leak down test. I will copper spray all my gaskets and put it back together and see what I end up with! This should make me feel better when I start it the next time and know it wont be going into a death rev.
