Hello, the other day my SX started spewing fuel out of the top and bottom drain tube and became VERY hard to start.

Does the carb need a rebuild? If so, how hard is it to do and is there anything I should know?

Thanks.

More than likely the float needle is stuck open.

This is commonly cured by tapping the bowl with the end of a plastic screwdriver, or simply riding it hard to dislodge the float needle, but its always a good idea to check it all out as flyingw suggests. There could be junk in the carb holding the needle away from the seat as well.

Usually a major fuel leak doesnt indicate the need for new carb parts, things like that tend to slowly get worse over time as opposed to a sudden leak.

Thanks guys! I suppose the first thing I'll try is a thorough cleaning. Now that I think about it, before this happened I pulled the filter/stopcock from the tank to clean it and a bunch of crud fell out. Maybe some of that junk got into the carb and caused the float to stick. I tried the tapping and hard riding to no avail when it all started.

You're welcome. I've had all good feedback on my tutorial. It really doesn't take much to keep the float valve from seating. In fact a human hair across the seat will keep it from seating. Give it a good cleaning and a fresh rebuild kit.

So what you're saying Jim is we best wear a hairnet while doing a carb rebuild??

I didn't see that in your tutorial!
