Well it showed up an hour ago here in St Louis! I started out at Trikefest 2007 riding a buddies 85 350x and got away from 4 strokes for a love of 2 stroke powered 250R's. Well both my 500 and the 310 didn't work out at the Little Sahara trip in March and Eric ended up sticking me on an 85 350X he got from Mister Clean. I was glad to have a bike to ride for the last 2 days there but it felt gutless and i swore off 350x's again until Eric stuck me on his 400X 86. After ripping it around for 5 minutes i was sold on finding myself one!

I mentioned it in a post that i was looking for one and out of no where Mr Clean pm's me about me next bike he has to sell me (bringing the total number of bikes the Barton's have from the Clean Family up to 4?). Anyways, make arrangements to purchase and ship this beauty to the midwest. Here are the ad pics from the classifieds

So i found a shipper on uship.com. It was supposed to be a pretty reasonable process and i would have gotten a better deal had i gone around the website after finding my shipper. I ended up spending just over $500 for insured shipping but it would have been an even $400 had i gone straight to the shipper. I can highly recommend Mach 1 Expedited Transport, Dave Krmpotich made the process easy and had the bike to me in 3 days after pick up. To get a bike from AZ to MO is worth about 400 IMO, paying 500 for an insured trip out with someone i hadn't worked with was ok with me to make sure i got my bike. If anyone is looking to ship bikes out from AZ or anywhere on the west coast i would recommend the guy, he said if he cant make a shipment he has access to larger network of name brand shippers that do it for 250$ flat that he has access to as a vendor.

Bike shows up and it looks AWESOME! Headlight is not painted white like i had wondered about. plastics front and rear are in great shape. Every nut and bolt is CLEAN, the coating is on them and theres no rust anywhere. Axle and everything looks brand new. I have never had an unrestored bike in the good of condition before.

Me waiting patiently for Dave to arrive with my new toy. Thats the ATC500R that bit me, needs some love

Dave the shipper. He had an enclosed trailer with about 10 other rare street bikes set for delivery throughout the midwest.

thanks man! Bike needs a wash, theres some dirt on the seat and some you can see on the tank flares. I don't want to get it wet to clean it hahahah probably just wipe it down with a damp rag lol

My plans for this bike include a set of Inverts that i should have being made in the next couple weeks. I plan to use crf450r forks as the forks for this bikes front end and complete associated crf450 brake caliper/rotor/master cylinder. Purchasing my 3rd Xonwer 10" front wheel now as well, probably going to run another one of the Dunlop front tires like i already have on the ATC500 and ATC310R bikes. THey are 22" tires, i like the way they ride everywhere but sand lol.

Eric/Corey Sprock are looking at another small batch of the 400 kits so i can stick one on here. For now I will just enjoy the 350x power until summer when they do another run of pistons and sleeves for the big bore kits.

I will be looking at a set of 20" fast trekkers for the rear of this, and most likely a set of those cool bead lockers in a 10" wheel that Fire1 runs on his machines since they are reasonably priced and look cool. I can't get enough of the look of the fast trekkers for some reason! Just a good looking tire and i like the way they grip and ride. Never had issues with them.

its just so hard to stomach the cost of a full or partial restore on a bike when you can find one in unrestored mint condition from out west. If you think about how you would spend 1-2000$ on powder coat, fresh bolts, bearings, time and energy for a partial/full restore. You can compare that to just buying a nice unmolested bike out west and spend 500-1000 to ship it from CALI to NY. I mean you are basically trading off all the headaches of tearing something rusty and worn out down for something already nice. I think its totally worth it, I'm in love with this Mr Clean machine!

It is a great trike, take care of it. :welcome:

I never rode this trike anywhere but the track, and it performed flawless. Here are some pics of it in action, it did have a pink seat, grips and fork boots.

I can't believe he was racing it with the rear fender garnish and brake line holder in place. Those are some high dollar parts to put at risk out there.

Jason, Congrats on the super nice machine. I was a little disappointed when I saw your plans for inverts, big bore, etc. I thought, "why mod such a clean unmolested specimen?". I got over it quickly, though. It will end up being the most capable rock-solid rider you could hope for.

Bob ya it was Disco's old bike. And it IS in good shape still lol. It will remain that way, just with a few tasteful mods

Bill i Know where you're coming from, I'm not going to do anything to compromise this bike i just REALLY want it to have a little more balls and updated suspension to soak up some new trails. I had a little accident on the 500. I had fixed a leaking reservoir to master cylinder line on sat night and the ressy still looked full to the min line so i didn't top it off. well some how either more leakd out or air made it way into the line at the master cylinder and i lost my rear brakes suddenly on a steep downhill. When i tightened my death grip on the handle bars my hand accidentally hit the extended thumb throttle lever and i accelerated into a tree. ankle is broke in 3 spots, i had surgery last sunday when it happened. It wasn't the result of riding beyond my abilities or riding faster than condition allowed, just an unfortunate event.

Totally missed the pipe question! Mike said it's one that Richard found at his regular Atv bone yard. It came off some newer Atv, that's the only info I got on it. From what I have looked over I haven't seen any markings that give away if it's a stock or aftermarket slip on.

And ya this is one of Aussiedunners lights. It's very high quality! Honestly I was going to replace the light and shrouds with red ones to get the 86 look back but I think with inverts and a few other new items it will look very unique! Real excited about this bike and making it my own.

Managed to scrub the mud off the 500 from last weekend before wedging all the bikes in there tonight, all 4 are a snug fit. 87 250sx, ATC500R, 86 350x, 86 310. Brakes, forks, front wheel/tire, rear tires, and rear wheels are sold. Making room for new wheels/tires/inverts. Still need to pull the stock triples off the bike and send them off to have the stem pressed out for the new billet triples and inverted fork set up.

White 350x, blue seat, and gold powder coated ITP Baja wheels wrapped in fast trekkers. I'd be running the front gold wheel from the 500R you see in my sig. I think its going to look awesome, if not I will just throw them on the 500 and run polished wheels on this and gold on the 500R. Im actually kind of excited to see what this bike could look like with gold wheels and inverts. Def different and would be the first to do it too :naughty: What do you guys think?

I'm still really excited about this bike, i think its going to turn out very unique. I can't wait to ride it! I had my neighbor start it for me sunday and i have to admit the slip on pipe sounds really good! I was going to replace it with a Super Trap but i think it has a great sound to it already. It was funny to watch someone that has no clue about the starting procedure for a 350 sit there and keep whacking at it even after i walked him through it several times. 25 kicks later i heard my new baby fire up for the first time. Sounds mean.

And someone brought up on FB about the rear shocks being crappy on these and how the new inverts would only bring that out. I have bounced on it and it seems to have great rebound already, but if the rear can't keep up than I will be sending it off to George at Suspension101 for a revalve and different spring. Motor is tight just time for suspension to make it solid for the summer abuse

Hey Jason.
Can I swap you your cracked steering stop cover for one of our new reproduction/replacement ones ???
The Mrs. has a hard time matching the color since we don't have a oem one to go by.

john

P.S. ~ NICE trike !

John I would be delighted to help you and the Mrs out! I will be shipping out some other parts tomorrow so just pm or post up your address and i can send you the one i have here. And thanks for the compliment!

Jakep53 its simple like most machines ; just roll it over a few times slowly and find TDC, then roll the kicker another 2 inches until it catches right past TDC, then let the kicker click back up to its highest resting point and THEN you kick it. When my brother Eric and I first started riding there was no method to it. We just jumped on the 350x's we were riding and kick until they started. It just makes the bikes easier to start in less kicks, and it wont throw you over the handle bars randomly. Kinda like starting a 2 stroke. Both my 500 and 310 are one kick bikes using the same starting procedure, just need to get right past TDC and whack it so you get atleast a solid rotation out of the motor

Last night I bought a set of 10" wheels that will receive gold powder treatment from BKM. Also picked up a Duro Hook Up 21x7x10 front tire. Its time to stock pile parts while i heal. I plan to order up the forks, triples, and related brakes etc next friday

I've been digging the gold wheel on the front of the 500 and i think the 350 will look great with 3 gold pieces all the way around! Or some raw unpolished aluminum pieces,,, either way, you've got a good plan. the 500 would look good with gold rims too so if the 350 dont look right the 500 will!!! Lol

Thanks CJ and DOHC; i was going to make the 500 all gold wheels and ran out of time before the ride where i wrecked. Was supposed to get the 8" rears on it now powdercoated and even have the pound of powder at my coater that matches the front wheel. It came down to the week of the St Joe ride sunday before last and i said screw it just mount em up so i can ride, i planned to pull the Trekkers off to run flat track tires for the sikeston TT race anyways so it wasnt going to matter. Guess im not racing this month at Sikeston now lol so the trekkers stay on those wheels polished for now. I will try the gold out, if i dont like it than I will just toss em on the 500 and grab the polished set off the 500 for the 350x! Honnerlaw is ordering up the next round of 10" wheels tomorrow so we will be able to see how both bikes look with and with out gold pretty shortly here! Just waiting on Invert kits now!

How do you like the sound of that yzf 450 muffler? I have the same on mine...nice and quiet at idle, and just enough bark to hit the sweet spot. Very nice bike...well done!!

My bad, after taking a better look and comparing your muffler to mine, they arnt the same. Is yours in fact from a yzf450r? Mine is for sure, and looks to be a bit shorter than yours with the mount further to the rear. Just wondering.

ya man i have no clue what its off of! Mr Clean that sold it to me told me that Kasey found it at his local atv graveyard he finds all his stuff at. atleast thats what i understood. I like the way it looks, sounds nice and throaty and will be just fine even with the 400 kit that this puppy will be pumping in a few months! thanks for the compliments, thats a really clean X you got there too! 85 or 86? Im still learning the X's, but theres not much after plastics to tell them apart for a newb like me lol

HEY THANX FOR THE COMPLIMENTS FROM YOU TOO. tHAT BUILD (FULL THREAD ON "hONDA 350X FORUM") , was a bit of both 85 and 86. It started out life as an 85, and got an nos 86 engine. With that came allot of small 86 stuff that had to work with 86 only stuff on the engine, like clutch cable and stator etc...theres allot of changes you dont realize till you start to combine both years to get everything to work. Youve got a sweet bike there...take care of it and it will last another 30 years...

As far as that muffler is concerned, its too close to mine to not be from a yzf 450. Maybe a different year etc...Im not up on the details of the Yamahas to know for sure, but if it is, it will definately out flow anything a 400 can throw at it..Keep us posted!!!! Im hooked now...

Ok new parts rolling in. 10" wheels and a set of fast Trekkers to wrap them with. My front Duro Hook Up tire arrived as well. I am goin to order up the crf450r forks and new triples tomorrow if everything works out financially. And my new xowner 10" front wheel should be here soon too. Looking at new handlebars as well.

Really other than the inverts and new wheels and tires the bike is done and will be left alone. Nothing real major is being added here, I should be content with just that lol

Where did you get the ITP wheels.Rocky Mountain ATV is where I got mine.Right now mine is entering it's last phase of rebuild. Are you putting a 450R swinger on?

JasonB

yep! Got them at Rocky Mountain ATV for what i feel was a great price. Cool thing was, i bought these wheels and the tire in the same transaction and the next day RockymountainATV gave me 50$ store cash!!! Seriously thats awesome. I spent that 50$ store credit right quick on some new pants to replace the one riding pants that were cut off me in the ER 2 weeks ago when i wrecked

Thanks man!

Ok guys How the hell do the studs come out on the 350x hub?! I have a set of dura blue hub spacers I want to run but need the studs out. Do they need pressed out? There doesn't appear to be thread on the studs where they meet the hub. I can't hammer them out right ?

Mr. Clean

Put a lug nut on the stud flat side out run it down flush and flat, put the edge of the hub on a bench and hit it with a hammer. This will protect the threads even though you are not re using them for the x.
