I thought all the great little barn finds from Michigan from the past few years had dried up..
But then this little gem showed up on CL for $650..I called the guy and offered him asking price if he'd pull the add and wait til this morning for me to come and get it.

Good work Doug! Looks all original. Wonder how long the ad was up for? I'm sure it wasn't long at that price. How far did you have to drive to get it? You gonna keep it or flip it?

The seller put the add up last week..no pics. I thought about called but never got around to it. He reposted yesterday morning with pics..the calls started rolling in but I told him I'd pay asking and 100% guarantee to show. He took me on faith..since so many CL responder play games I was surprised!
It was only about an hour from me with border crossing times..
Keep or flip..ah this is the question??
I've seen too many clean ones like this go thru my hands over the years for profit to cover my toy hobby..problem is the clean ones are getting rare and the prices have increased dramatically in the last couple years..I think it's time to hold em if you got em I think!
Now according to my wife it's a flip..but it may just shuffle quietly to the back of the herd for a couple months til she forgets about it!! :naughty:

Nice Doug! There is one down by me that I have been contemplating. So keep or flip?

Very nice! I would keep it. We all have machines we regret selling and that trike would be one for sure and at that price that is simply a wise investment.

Very nice! Might as well keep it. If it were around here the ute trikes don't seem to ever sell for more than what you paid, even in great condition. Seems nobody wants trikes besides 70s, 350x or liquid 250R

This is great to see Doug!! Awesome score. Put her away lol. I wouldn't sell that for a dime less than $1500. She's a real beauty and harder to find everyday. What are the chances of selling it to someone who will appreciate and love it the way it should be? And as much as I hate to say this,we know it's true. As I Am NOT one of those guys who says,,he paid me cash,,I don't CARE what he does with it... I DO care what they do with them!! Wish we were closer.. Except you would get half my pickens lol !

Looks like a nice original 85. Wish I had my hands on them OEM tires. That's a awesome price too in my books.

The seller was telling me that it came from a friends pole barn where it had been kept for many years..I told him I'd be taking it home and putting it back 'in the barn' so to speak.
He was quite surprised..most people showing up to grab these gems are running home and jumping on them and riding them like they just don't care!!
Too bad we aren't closer together Billy, I'd love to meet you and see your little piece of heaven(and your collection)..but we'd definitely have to set boundaries or we'd drive the local prices up from the competitive buying!! Sellers love when two people are circling the same spoils, makes their mouth water!

Well 84 actually, but same machine..just different tank stickers as far as I know.

I think one big difference between the 84 & 85 is the shift pattern. Other than that I believe the differences are fairly subtle. By the way....Nice score

nice find. The real problem i see here is when you told your wife you only paid $200 for it....when your gone 6ft under she is only going to sell it for what you told her you paid for it. lol Ive got all kinds of toys that im gonna have to come clean with now that im over 50.....i could go at any time. Maybe a little black book that she would find after im gone with real values on all my stuff eh. lol

WOW!!! That thing is NICE!!. My son and I got nostalgic for our old 200S after seeing those pics. Those are very underrated machines and we rode ours through some crazy stuff and it would shoot up a near vertical creek back five feet high with nothing more than body english and some extra thumb throttlage

Actually that thought has already crossed both our minds..I'm working on a total list of all toys in my shop and their approx. value to sell at present. Boat, seadoo, trikes, quads, snowmobiles, golf cart, tools, ice auger, gas pressure washer...I have a ton of stuff. Lots of it my wife has never even seen!! I'm hitting on 50 soon too and shlt happens..
Having lost my dad tragically just a few months ago and what I hoard in toys he did in antique clocks and cameras has made this pretty real. The family and I are having a hell of a time sorting his stuff out to sell and I know we are gonna let a lot of money walk out the door just because we haven't the knowledge or time to figure out what everything is worth!!
Your thought is heard loud and clear Reg!!
Oh........and I vote 'keep it' also
Yeah, I think I already knew it was a keeper when I loaded it up..this thing is too stupid nice to sell!! I'll sell something else to keep the wife happy and make some space in the shop..anyone want to buy a tired old 86 Honda TRX250 cheap!?? :D

Did they sort that out on the 85? I've never actually seen an 85 200S..I gotta say the 'down upshift' pattern on this unit is my only dislike. I keep forgetting and mixing my shifts up since all my others are standard up for up, down for down!!

Once you get use to the shift pattern it's really efficient. But if you switch back and forth you'll hate it. And if you wanna see a 85 I have one as my profile picture if you click on my name. That's mine. It's a pic from the back but hey. They are my favorite machine. I never owned all models but it's sentimental so yea.

Had an 84 and an 85 at the same time, almost impossible to not mixup the shifts, so annoying.
Great looking trike Doug!
Keep it/sell it is a win win on this one. Either you get keep a super clean original for a great price, or you get to sell a super clean original for 2-3 times what you paid for it. Well done sir!

Doug are you going too ride this trike much? I went for a ride the other day and I took my old 82 Big Red. I just bought a 84 Big Red that is in the same sort of shape as your new 200s. I know its stupide but I might not ride it much at all. I have 3 other machines and would like to keep the 84 pristine.

I've seen your 200ES..
I, like you have lots of other machines that are my main riders..it's not stupid at all to have garage queens. Lots of guys have them..
This machine will fit definitely not see a lot of use..keeping it in it's current state is definitely my 1st priority!

Whenever I see these posts it reminds me of how old I am.. Growing up on ATC's . They ALWAYS shifted down!! My buddies w bikes always had "the odd shift pattern :) ". We never knew any different. Just the way it was! Then came the 200X ! Ahh,everything changed that day.

Nice score on the 84 Doug! Mine looked like that once, minus the rear rack, and before I got it. :I
You must have a very big garage!
