Maybe you guys can settle a bet for me. When did titles first start appearing for ATCs and ATVs, like they are nowadays? I heard it was around 1994. ANd if that is true, did they have anything (title) similar to what we have today? Thanks

There are 50 different correct answers. Title regulations are up to each state.

Well, all trikes came with a certificate of origin. Kind of a birth certificate/import paperwork. In NY, you use the certificate to register it and to 'create' a title. My 350X was never registered, but the guy gave me the certificate of orgin when I got it. I went to DMV to get tags last winter, showed it to them and they took it from me! I had them make a copy first though. ;)

I have a title for my 86 250R.

I registerred my bikes in PA. All you need to do is scribe your VIN number on a piece of paper, fill out the application and they will issue a registration and license plate.

In MI ATV's did not require titles untill 1988 or 1989. So a machine that is older, or even a newer one You have to get a bill of sale, stating the price and vin. numbers and you get a title for your machine. Snowmobiles they're even more laxed about.

Hey,

All three wheelers I have seen that came from Arkansas and are still owned by the original owner, had titles.

You don't have to tag a vehicle to re-title in your name.
