My X has cobra exhaust on it and I'm wanting to switch it out with something different. Anyone know if the DG system sounds different, or is it basically the same? The other question I have is will any honda cdi box that looks like the 350x box work for it? The 86 250x and 250 es, sx box's all look the same. Will any of them work, or is there a difference? Mine works fine, I'm just looking for a backup. Thank you.

I know older DG's are loud.To me Cobras have just a bit lower thumper sound. As far as CDI,your right the connections look the same. They both run on a 12v system. But noticed that the #'s on the CDI's didnt match. So the timing curve and rev limit might not be right.Good Q.

The dg pipe for the 350x sounds great but is VERY loud. The supertrap is still my favorite , not too loud and good performance.

I agree... both the DG and Cobra systems are about equally as loud as the other. But I think the DG is a little deeper where the Cobra is very snap-crackly sounding. I too prefer a Supertrapp over all of them.
CDI: Just because the plugs look the same doesn't mean it will work. The numbers need to match. I have a CDI here that I thought was for a 3rd gen R looking at the plug receptacle. Nope..
I have seen here and there that certain early 400ex CDI's do work, but the info I found was hit and miss and not compelling enough for me to buy one just to try. I have not tried it yet myself.

I have had, stock, Cobra, Supertrap, DG on my 350xs and I gotta say SUpertrap and DG made the best power. To me, cobra is still the loudest of em though. Cobra makes good power too, but in that order..
