Here’s a question, I bought a set of Steering Bearings for my tri z front end that’s going on my YTM 225 DXN I was reading the packaging and saw the list of Bikes this kit fits…

Kit:
All Balls P/N: AB221019 (22-1019 JZT30-011)

According to the Packaging this steering stem Bearing / Seal kit fits the following:
Suzuki:
DR 125 86-88
DR 250 82-85
DR 650SE 90-91
RM 125 81-86
RM 250 81-86
RM 465 81-82
RM 500 83-84
SP 125 82-88
SP 200 86-88
SP 250 82-85
SP 600 85 Only

Yamaha:
Tri-Z 250 85-86

Now, is it safe to assume that
All the front ends listed above (Except for stem length which still needs to be determined)
Would fit on the YTM 225 Three Wheelers? (If the Tri Z fits, shouldn’t others that use these bearings?)

According to someone who's put a tri z fork set up on their YTM 225, they used the YTM bottom bearing and the Tri Z top bearing
and all was well, so that makes me think the stems are the same diameter... but maybe im mistaken...
Any thoughts?

Often the i.d. of the upper bearing will be smaller than the i.d. of the lower bearing, but Yamaha was pretty good about interchangeability. When I put the Z frond end on my BW I just had the BW triples bored out to accept the larger fork tube. A BW triple will also bolt right up to a DX, and you can keep your factory headlight.

You already said it, stem length is a big factor in the interchangeability of bike front ends.

They only list dirtbikes, no trikes, but based on the above post I pulled up the BW200 and got what looks like 200+ results.

They also post this warning:
4. This front-end conversion search is based on bearing inner and outer dimensions ONLY! Stem length may vary from machine to machine making some combinations unworkable. As a result of front-end conversion, rake and trail may be altered, adversely affecting handling of the vehicle.

I had already checked this tool for my 85 tecate... it uses the same bearing kit as the 84 KX250. Problem is even thought the bearings fit, and the stem could possibly be swapped, the triples off a dirtbike are still too narrow.

so a BW and a tri-z don't have the same front end? I would have thought they did...lol I think the tri z front end has more rake to it than the YTM does too, id rather use the tri z triple on my YTM. right now im in the process of trying to get the bottom bearing off the tri z triple... WTF? its like its welded on... I may have to actually cut it off!!

yeah... but finding a longer set of forks that would fit the diam. of your triples would be awesome... just need to find a chart that shows that info... I posted something on this site a few weeks ago... might work.

an old thread, but to addd my 2 cents. The bw 200 and 350s have some differences that I cant recall and the 85 and 86 Z triples have different fork diameters and rakes.

If only it was that easy for women to swap front ends. ;)
