****5/26/14 UPDATE I am very impressed to say the least. I say better than Hondaline! Absolutely beautiful.
Not sure on total price yet. I did have to pay tax also. I need to check on priority shipping(in the u.s.) tomorrow. Guys I will have a few of these left so the others on going on ebay. I am not making a dime on here so get them now 5/26 through Trike fest. After that, they will go up in price. Just my way of saying thanks to every one else that puts time and money into projects like this. ;) I will post up total prices asap. Will be they be available at trike fest? of course! They will be a few bucks cheaper there also since no shipping is involved.****
SO what do you think? :beer:beer
These are big stainless looking knobs that hold a rear rack down and come through the fender. These are threaded. I cant even find a pic of one to show. So if you have a pic post it up. I am going to invest some money in these. Already have a machine shop that has a cnc machine but I need one to use. Would prefer to buy a set but would borrow one if i had to.
I have a 1987 125m that uses these and it did not come with them.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a couple of blank knobs left. All you need is a couple of 10mm bolts. Just offering up an option. I cut the head of the bolt off and pressed the bolt shank in to the knob.

You may be able to use something like these:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#machine-component-knobs/=qus33x

I have some on my YTM200e racks that I got from the local hardware store. The ones I have are the "threaded hole" type

I put got the right size/pitch threaded rod, then tightened the knobs down like the were nuts. Stock the YTM came with the stud type.

a few of us posted 'sx rack' pictures a while ago.
Can you get the search key to work?

You trying to make something for your own use , or to sell ? There is a tread on here from 3/2012 that has the knobs in the pic . I'll try to link it .
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/155028-250sx-front-and-rear-rack-with-all-mounting-hardware-whats-it-worth

Not the best , but you can see the knobs .
I just used 10mm bolts , left the 17mm heads on them . I carry a socket and a close quarters ratchet ( just a knob with a 3/8 drive on it )

Sorry I do not. Sx's did not come stock with racks so in am guessing it's a Hondaline product. My 125m rack has been used so there are no signs of manufacture name on it/stickers.
I'm going to look at that McMaster car site. I was going to do it anyway. Thanks for all the replys.

Tri-again- yes I used the search key . Even googled a bunch of words relating to the rack pieces.

The problem I saw with the McMaster Carr knobs is the thread pitch. The threads in the rack are standard Honda fine threads (10mm x 1.25) and the MC threads are 1.50 and 1.75.

Hmmm... usually McMaster has all the sizes for fasteners, but the do seem to be missing those. Just a thought, you can try the "Unthreaded knob with set screw" in a standard size with M10 x 1.25 threaded rod. The set screw style appears to have a screw that tightens from the side to lock down on the stud. Or knobs with the "unthreaded through hole" along with the appropriate bolt.

Good ideas. I'm going to keep searching for a set of the actual knobs. Seems 12-18 sets would probably sell here. I have an awesome machine shop with CBC machine ready to rock and roll.

I fabbed up some brackets for my sx rack about a month ago. i tapped the brackets with standard thread and got some knobs from a furniture place near me. Its not an oem look at all, but, it did'nt come out too bad. anyway, i mention it because a few months ago when you threw out your "feeler" thread i said i would be in for buying a set of knobs if you produced them. seems i jumped the gun a bit. i don't have oem brackets, so i now have no need for oem knobs. sorry. i wanted to let you know in case you were counting me as one of the "sold" sets. 187856

We want the correct/reproduced knobs. 250sx and 125m 86-87 had these on their Hondaline racks.
Sure a welded bolt and washer would work for functionality but we are anal aboout things sometimes! I shipped your T shirt today.

Ahh OK, i understand. I'm that way about one of my Big Reds lol. I'd help if I could, but sadly I don't have a SX or the money to get one yet. Theres one for sale near Austin TX that has a Hondaline rack and might have the knobs, maybe if someone on here picks it up they would lend one. And thanks! You got yourself a good sized billboard for the Mud Nats now haha!

Shane,

A knob will be heading your way on Monday. I called a buddy of mine who has a rack with the knobs in his attic and he said no problem. The only thing he asks is for one set of repo knobs but if cost is a factor, I'll cover that. In any case, I'll email him your address and he will drop ship it directly to you.

Let me know how much they are going to be Captain. Right now my rack has probably a 9/16 bolt on 1 side (will need to replace the mount due to threads being waxed probably) and the other side has a 1/2 bolt that goes all the way though with a nut on the bottom, both sides with washers. Would be nice to be able to remove the fenders without having to use wrenches.

The problem I'm having is giving a set to someone who loans one to me. I give parts away, even ship them for free sometimes. 2-3 people on this post alone could prove this. I don't think I'm willing to invest what these are going to cost me, just to borrow one. If it were $15-30 maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deal but from what I understand price wise, it's not going to be that cheap. Thanks for calling your buddy Jim but I think I will keep looking.

Well Shane, let the knob come to you. If the cost to make what you need is that much then all I need to do is make sure he gets his knob back and I'll cover the shipping cost he has to send it to you. Its not a big deal either way. All you're using it for is an example right? It's all good. Let's see what the machine shop is going to charge to make these first but to do that, you need a knob as an example or a drawing of a knob.

Yes john I would have to guess so.
Ok guys I have a quote.
Not sure on the shipping yet but probably somewhere in the $6 range.
The order is for 30 knobs. With me making absolutely nothing on them we have two choices. Only doing one or the other.
Carbon is $28 each
Stainless is $33 each
I personally like the carbon myself and paint them black. I need at least 8 to commit to buying a set before I invest in them. Again I am not making a cent on these. How many will commit to purchasing??

Does anyone know of any of these knobs still available that don't cost over $50 USD? That is an insane price to pay for simple metal knobs, but I do love the appeal of then OEM look. I looked into having some made as detailed lower in this thread, but they don't make anything with the 1.25 thread pitch.
