Hey guys, been slowly fixing up a 1985 250sx for almost a year now, its come together a fair bit since I bought it but there are still a few things id like to do with it. The exhaust thats on it now its pretty rusted out and doesn't sound the best, I cant find any aftermarket exhausts for her around, and i think theyre pretty hard to find but I was just wondering if an exhaust off a cr250 or some other 250 dirtbike would work because i could definitely find one of those cheap.. just wondering like what would work and what wouldn't, and if it would make it sound a bit better? all helps much appreciated..thanks.

Dont quote me on this but I dont think a two stroke muffler will work very well on a four stroke but I could be wrong

Kimpex exhaust for the 250ES will fit, but you'll have to grinder the centre point support off the frame that the 250SX uses..no other modification needed.

I installed one on my SX 3 years ago..still good!!

says they dont ship to canada. also not sure if i got the funds to drop 200 bucks on it haha, just looking for some alternative that would look and sound decent that would be pretty common and easy to find.. if there is one.

If $200 isn't in your budget than I guess you're off to you local discount auto for a cheap replacement muffler and doing some cobbling..not really my area so I don't have much more to add I'm afraid.

Hello ChrisB;

Do you need the entire pipe and a muffler?

Are you required to have a spark arrestor?

a 2 stroke exhaust works no problem, and sounds wicked to! I put a stock muffler off a 2003 rm250 on my 87 sx. just had to cut off the factory sx muffler and weld on the rm muffler with a peace of pipe as a sleeve and I didn't have to change any jetting. I have been running it for 2 years now with no problem.

I don't know if it's an option for you, but I like my SX with it's factory exhaust.

Call your local atv dealer and see if they deal with aftermarket parts from Kimpex, they may be able to order the muffler for you.

I have a muffler like that on my 200es, I had it laying around so I tossed it on for fun, it works great as well and sounds mean.

Anyone think a 2 stroke YZ 250 muffler would work on my 4 stroke 225 DXn?
