Hey guys, never built a two stroke before, but I'm gonna give it a shot over the next year or so.

My first questions are about the 83 250r's frame construction. Where the front of the engine cradle tubes meet the tubes at the rear, in front of the peg mount, is that supposed to be welded or one continuous tube? Mines welded.

Judging by the two different o.d. pipes, its supposed to be that way, right?

Also, the weld is pretty ugly, not that I haven't seen some bad welds from honda (and all the others too) so I wanted to get your input. If the frame has been repaired I will start with another one. Here's the pic.

Then just one more question. I would like to know of any notoriously weak spots in the frame on the 83.

I will probably end up using this thread to ask some more "83 250r noob questions", and when I can't find the info by searching, or want a fresh take on any issues I'll post them here. Feel free to do the same for ONLY the 83 model year if you need info as well.

Thanks to any and all that are willing to help a poor 4 stroke guy out with some good 2 stroke info!!

It is supposed to be welded at that point, I took a pic of my 83 250r frame, for some reason I can't post a pic I this thread.
Your weld does look bigger but I don't see it being a week point it looks strong, keep in mind that I'm no welding expert. Give me your email address and I can send the pic

OK great! Thanks for the info on the cradle trikester! I'll just clean the welds up a little with the flap wheel then.

So that leaves just the question of any notorius weak spots from the factory on the 83 for now....

I dont believe the 2nd gen r had any weak points in the frame. They are a pretty beefy frame. As long as there not crashed they shouldnt break or bend.
