84 big red exhaust

Ok where the end of the header pipe meet ad where the start of the exhaust pipe start I am noticing some black residue on the engine case.. My question is could the gasket that goes there if lost cause enough of a vent it would mess up the idling?? As soon as I noticed it my bike somewhat acted different and acted like it had lost a lil amount of power

There is a gasket at that point, so if its leaking there then it needs to be replaced.

a small leak will not affect idle or performance.
