Hey guys. Yesterday I did some parts swapping on my friends 85 200s. Before I tore into the engine it did run but smoked and was low on compression. We had a spare motor that I knew was a good runner but didnt have a head and also had a blown transmission. So i took the jug, piston and rings from the parts motor and put them onto his. I did nothing to the head. The motor started right up first pull after completion and was idling great. Tons of new found power. Problem is that once it warms up it starts smoking! The cylinder piston and rings I used are used but were in perfect shape and came out of what used to be a great running motor before the trans let go and it got put on a shelf. Now I need your input. Do you think the smoke is coming from unburnt oil wether inside the motor of the exhaust which I doubt since it has to warm up to happen or do you think it needs valves seals? Or maybe something else that im not thinking of?

It may be oil build up in the exhaust. I've got a 70 like that, it smoked like a freight train and now with the new china motor it will smoke a bit after it's hot. I used the original 70 pipe with the motor swap, I should have burned out the muffler first but it will stop eventually. Try heating the muffler with a propane torch and see if it smells like burning oil.

Thats what I was hoping the motor runs great now tons of power tons of compression I may try to take the muffler off and use the torch to try and burn it off he's pretty bummed as am I after all the work I did

If it was spitting oil into the exhaust Briano is probably right on, just had this happen recently, and it smoked for a lonnnng time before it finally quit. Days.

Yea I soaked the cylinder with oil when I put the piston in. I started it up this morning and let it idle for half an hour and saw no smoke then at lunch time I took it for a short putt around the parking lot and no signs of smoke im hoping all it was was just u nburnt oil I dont feel like taking the motor back apart. So for now im keeping my fingers crossed until we can get a good run with it which wont be soon until I find him some tires. Who ever he bought it off of put front rims. Tires and hubs from a sport quad on the rear of the 200s which looks horrible if you cant picture it
