Guys I am having a heck of a time getting the starter wheel of my boys little 50. According to the manual once you remove all the clutch assembly you should be able to remove the starter one way assembly along with the starter gear by carefully pulling off of the shaft. The one way came off but the starter gear is frozen to the needle bearing it rides on. Apparently these little motors have issues with the belt dust gumming up the needle bearings therefore freezing the starter gear. It is stuck . There is not much room on the top, left or bottom side of the gear to get a gear puller in there. I am ready to break it so I can possibly get some more clearance between the gear and the case to get 3 jaw puller on there. Don't really want to break it though as i have another 90 that uses the same design so I am sure I will be fighting this battle again shortly . Any tricks for breaking the gear loose? I was thinking of trying to heat the wheel for expansion but didn't want to ruin the crank seals. I found a starter gear on ebay for $20 brand new, so I have the spare parts, just looking for some old time tricks. I did spray it with Kroil and let it sit for a day but didn't seem to help. Thanks is advance for all your help/suggestions.

Do you have anything you can freeze the shaft with? Maybe a little heat to the gear, then freeze the shaft. This might shrink it enough to free the gear.....

A while back fabiodriven posted the name of some freezing agent, I can't remember the name of it but I'll look for it, maybe he will see this and let us know.

A freezing agent huh? I will look into that. Sounds like a pretty good idea. I know it cant really be welded on there as the needle bearing is nylon with steel rollers. I am sure there is just a bunch or rubber crud stuck between the gear, bearing and shaft. I think I will try some more heat on the gear too, I was just worried about the oil seal.

I found fabios post, he recommended "CRC freeze off" and mentioned it is $6 a can.

And yes be very conservative with the heat in that area....

Thank you very much, I will try that.
