They're multiplying ATC 70's

last week got ahold of my first atc 70. its a 79. has the common bent frame, tank and carb were trashed, but ordered a new carb for it, and in the process of cleaning the tank now. ordered a new set of fenders for it. picked it up for $100

today found another atc 70 and picked it up. got it from a chick that was tweaking pretty good. definitely on drugs. has sores,scars and scabs all over her face. was told this one ran. its a 85. overall better shape than my 79. frame is straight, fenders arent busted up, but the rear tires are too big for it, so they rub the fenders. pulled and pulled on it with no fire. asked lady who owned it if she had anything that i could siphon some gas from the tank and squirt in spark plug hole. she said yes, disappeared in her house, and came back out with a needle/syringe. lol. it did the trick the lil guy started right up and didnt make weird noises or smoke.gas cap is screwed, missing the rubber seal, so what did they do, they tried to seal the gas cap on with expandable foam lmao. they also painted the tank and both fenders with red house paint, i have no idea how to strip that off. she wanted 200, snagged it for $125 haha. loaded it, and immediately took off to a gas station to wash my hands. haha.

im still in the air as to what i want to do, obviously i want one to build/restore for my daughter. obviously i could make a really nice one out of my 2. but then again for as rare as the 70s are in my area itd be fun to fix both.. i have some time to think about it. got them both dirt cheap, so its not hurting me to hang onto both

Nice score, here's hoping she'll clean up nicely. Chemical paint stripper might work, but I'm not sure how that would adversely affect the plastic underneath. First thing I'd do is to try and scrape off as much as you can, without severely scratching the plastics, and then pour rubbing alcohol in light amounts around the areas with paint and rub it with paper towels. If it doesn't immediately come off, then just wait a bit and then more when it dries. After you get the paint off give the entire thing a good wash. Hopefully that should work.

Some goo gone and a green scrubbing pad worked good for taking spray paint off plastics for me.

Does the paint seem hard and dry or kind of soft and rubbery? Trying to determine if its Latex or Oil based. The Oil based usually feels harder, the Latex paint stays more flexible and rubbery. Either way a good first test is to take a rag and soak it in acetone, then lay the rag on the tank or fender, just let it rest and sit there a while, then come back in say 10-15 mins and see if it softened the paint up. If your lucky they went really cheap and its latex paint, once you get a start on it its easy to peel and clean off. If its oil based it might have a good bond down, especially to the gas tanks original paint. But the acetone soaked rag works great. You can also try some spray can paint remover just be careful with chemicals on the fenders since it can mess up the plastic, but the tank is easier since you can always sand it down and repaint anyway.

If it's enamel/oil paint it could be a pain. You will need a strong solvent or paint stripper (be careful that it's safe for plastics).
If it's latex/acrylic rubbing alcohol or windex may do the trick.

Whatever you do, test it in a hidden spot like under the fender or seat (if those spots are painted) and be prepared to but some muscle into it.

Don't even ask me what to do with lead paint... I've never messed with it (but hear it taste good).

my vote is build 1 for the daughter and 1 for you with a 125-150cc lifan or piranha engine. I have had good luck using paint stripper gel to get paint off plastics, without hurting the plastic. but you have to keep an eye on it. as soon as the paint starts to blister get it off there. a soft plastic bondo (body filler) spreader helps with removal. they probably got painted for a reason, so they probably wont be nice underneath, but you can repaint with the proper stuff. Any type of abrasive pad or scraping will for sure damage the plastic. but you might find they need sanded and painted anyway.

the paint is hard and dry. cant even put a mark in it with your fingernail.

haha ive been looking for a 70 since i found out my wife was pregnant. so been looking for about a year now. then out of the blue i found my 79 last week. then made the mistake and searched "3 wheeler" on craigslist the other nite, and found this 85 70. she had it titled as " big red 3 wheeler" nowhere in the ad it said 70, but i knew when i saw it it was a lil 70 lol. wife didnt even notice it in the garage when she got home yesterday (i didnt tell her i was picking up another 70 lol) then when i told her to take a look she wasnt exactly thrilled. but i said, its always nice to have a spare. she laughed then walked away

im definitely building one for the daughter. but dont think ill build one for me. im 6'6 300+ pounds. id break the little guy haha. besides i have a kfx 700 and raptor 700 for my own toys

Try a heated pressure washer. I have one from Power America and that will peal paint off of just about anything. I picked up plastic for my trx. It did the trick but made a mess of the yard. Some will put out 200+ deg water at 3000 psi. Look out!

i literally only had a very small splash of acetone left from pre cleaning the tank on my 79 atc 70. but the tiny bit of acetone i did have left cut right thru the paint on the front fender. so now i need to get another gallon of acetone and see how far i can get. from what i can tell the front fender looks great under the house paint, so im unsure as to why they even painted it
