I have a 125m and would like to get the electric start working, as of now it kinda works. It will turn the motor over slow then stop, like a dead battery. But i know the
battery is good, Ive even connected it to a battery charger to jump it and same results.
I pulled the starter out and the brushes look new. Tried connecting the starter directly to the battery charger, it wizzed and seemed just fine.
OVERALL QUESTION: Is it possible there is enough power being drawn somewhere else on the trike that the starter wont start it. Or is the start just weak and doesn't work well with a load on it. Lastly where can i get a new start for a reasonable price, Ive checked ebay and the cheapest ones Ive found are $90.

I hope your internal starter gears aren't binding.
Maybe smack the starter, short, sharp whack to knock some sense
into the springs and brushes.
That usually works when brushes are worn out and you can get a few more spins out of them.
If it was mine? and it spun good with battery.?
but not when installed?
I'd short across the solenoid with a srewdriver and see if that direct powershot spins it normally.
That will bypass all the other connection concerns, but don't push it.
The internal reduction gears can cause other issues.
...or wait until you get some better info.
GROUNDS seem to be indicated but it's like, engine bolts to frame, battery bolts to frame and or engine. amd starter is bolted to engine so those connections are pretty hefty to start.
Please let us know what you find.
My local autoelectric place rebuilt mine in the 10 min. I waited around...28$

If all your testing done with the starter installed was using the starter solenoid inline i would take jumper cables and just use one side of the jumper cables and connect one end to the battery positive and then take the other end and touch it to the terminal on the starter, to bypass the solenoid, if it can then pull the motor over no problems its just a bad solenoid thats causing issues. The contacts in them wear out and get carboned up from arcing, then you have a high resistance connection that won't pass the full current the starter needs.
If the starter can turn the motor over fine directly connected to the battery then just replace the solenoid. If it still doesn't then its likely a weak starter. I have had them like that as well, but usually a new set of brushes and cleaning the starter out good will fix it. These are pretty basic starters, just an electric motor, no throwout or anything on them they just run the gear reduction in the motor that spins the one way starter clutch on the crankshaft behind the flywheel.
But if the starter clutch was bad your starter would still spin but the motor wouldnt turn over, and if the starter clutch was stuck then the motor would spin the starter after its running. So i doubt you have a problem in the motor, its most likely a bad solenoid or a bad starter. Also check all connections on the solenoid and battery and your ground cable from the battery to frame/motor connections. One corroded connection can cause a lot of issues.
As for the starter, there is cheaper replacements, mainly on ebay.
