1986 350X Restification Crate motor!!!! updated

I have a 1986 350X that I got as a basket case. The motor was in pieces, frame was missing the #s and had lots of boogered holes. I put a new piston in the motor only to find the kicker was messed up, fixed that and found washers where they were not supposed to be and saw that the cases had been split. Got it all together and rode it for a while and loved it so I looked for a frame on Ebay. Found a mint frame and also a 86 crate motor!!!!! so the transfer of parts begins. Here are a few pics, one of the before and a couple of the project as it is today.

That's the bike I am taking apart. After I got the motor together it ran like a raped ape but made some good top end noise and smoked when you started it. I just figured that since the cases had been split and from what I saw under the outer covers it si just a time bomb. Once I get it back together I can tell all you guys what a NEW 350X is like. :-D I am also redoing the forks with 84 250r guts like what mr.atc said over on .org. The only things I need to make it really mint are new plastics and a seat cover.

I installed progressive springs in mine. made a huge difference. what happend to the forks on the bike in the first pic. they look almost straight up and down?

How much did you pay for that motor??,, I was thinking of doing the same thing for a bike I have that has a blown motor

The crate is not OEM but if you need a good crate to ship an engine you can have it for shipping. The guy used 3/4" plywood, bolted on handles and bolted the motor to the back.

I paid $750. Figured that was a decent price for an 86 and it cane with a new carb, kicker, shifter, case saver, sprocket cover, oil cooler and had no cut wires.

I got a brand new Kenda Front Max on the front on a near mint 86 billet center rim and some new Spider Traks on new ITP aluminums on the rear. New headlight,plastic tank and Maier super scoops. I will have to run the not terrible but not perfect fenders for a while until I get a little more free$. Here's a couple pics from today.

Look at all that shinny stuff. Looks great. Be sure to get plenty of pic's before riding it cause it will be a pain to get that "showroom" shine again.
