Been looking for a ATC 70 for several years. They are pretty impossible to find up around here. This one came up and I jumped on it. Local dude had bought a couple of 125's for his kids and the guy he bought it from threw in the 70 just to get rid of it. It's hasn't been used much, but sat in a garage for years neglected. Dude had no use for it and put it up. It's in really solid shape but he wasn't too mechanically inclined and messed a few things up trying to make it "nicer".

The good...

-Motor is EXCELLENT, tons of compression and runs through all the gears, no rattles, leaks or anything wrong with it.
-Plastics are solid, bit sun faded and has one small crack that you can't see when the seat is on. I'll probably replace with Maier anyways...
-Frame is solid with no rust, no issues with the drive-train either.
-The tank has NO rust in or out and he had it professionally painted but it's got some linear dents on each side near the front, almost like the forks hit it on each side, but they don't reach the tank, dunno how that happened. I'll fix it up and re-paint it.
-Wheels are in great shape with new tires.

The not so good.

-Dude snapped the starter rope and then tried to fix it. Being a moron the thing blew up on him and he lost a dog and the springs. He couldn't find all the parts after... :( Can buy an aftermarket one for about 120$
-he lost the air-box too! How, I dunno... still available for about 45$
-Missing a rubber foot-peg (easily replaced)
-Rims have been spray bombed. He said they were faded but no rust, he just wanted to "spruce" them up a little... I'll blast them and polish them up.
-he replaced the coil with an "el-cheapo" version, not a big deal I guess, not sure how hard they are too find now...
-Duct tape special for the seat, but it's all there. I found a OEM type cover for 50$ on flea-bay.

Paid him $300 for it. It's an '83. Seemed to be worth that much easy, rare as they are up here...

So I'm planning a decent restoration sometime this spring, when it warms up... Been around -47C here all month!!! Not garage weather, that's for sure... Don't think I'll touch the motor except for some cleaning/polishing. It runs good enough, but might rebuild the carb. Couldn't test drive it before I bought because of all the snow.

Nice score! Never worked on a 70 before but they look ridiculously easy to work on. Nice!

Decent start for $300.00. Pretty hard to have a nice looking rider in Canada for less than $500-600. Before you give eBay any money try the classifieds here first. I've even had luck buying used parts from hondaatc70.com in the US. If you buy a used airbox watch that the rubber boot isn't rotted through. You may want to source out some heel guards while your at it. The steering stop probably got bent up sometime in it's life and contributuing to the tank damage. Then it was probably bent down again.

Yeah I've been browsing the hondaATC70... that is a kick-ass site! And the prices aren't outrageous either! They have a LOT of available gear on there! I wish there were sites like this for the 200x and other machines as well...

Sweet, probably won't start working on it until spring though, I'm finishing up work on my homebuilt plane and have to get that out of the garage first! :)

Out of curiosity (stupidity) would parts off 86 trx70 fit the atc as I have a rear axle assembly, bottom end of motor, wiring, rear brake. Just a thought

From what I've read, a lot of the parts on the TRX and ATC are pretty interchangeable...
