85 200x rear tires??

Just snagged an 85 200x and need to put some rear tires on it. It's coming with paddles mounted on the stock rims. Just looking for suggestions. I'll be using it for general trail riding most of the time and I'm sure I will encounter mud from time to time (live in south Louisiana). Not looking to go mudding though, I have a 4x4 quad for that. I was thinking of the stock Fourtrax 250/450r rears? They look good and I've heard good things about them - thoughts, or any other suggestions? Thanks.

Those tires would be a great choice - especially if you can find somebody's throwaways they don't want because they're stock.

Anyone with experience with the CST ambush? Or some of the Chen Shin knobbies like the 827 and 829 look to be really close to the original pro vectors? Thanks.

OK - I believe I've settled on a 20 inch CST ambush on a 9 inch rim (scored some rims cheap on ebay). My question now is, should I go with a 10 or 11 inch wide tire??? I was leaning toward a 10 inch since the little "X" isn't a powerhouse. Thanks for any input you may have.

I went the cheap route and put stock 450r rims and rubber on my 250r. i have ZERO regrets.

If we can assume that the 10 inch wide tire provides the desired traction(? I know mine do), wouldnt the 11 wide add a little unsprung rotating mass, therefore theoretically needing more power to turn them?

Was just thinking that when I encounter sticky/tacky/boggy conditions (I am in South Louisiana) that it would pull a 10" wide better than an 11". Granted I will be more running trails with this bike, but I regretted going with wide rear tires on the back of my 4x4 quad rather than skinnies all the way around b/c it's only a 400 and they tend to bog it down in really goey stuff.

Yes - The 11's are about 1.5 lbs heavier per tire.

Mud lites are on the heavy side but would work in your type of riding just fine.

I've owned several 200Xs and definitely recommend light tires. Although not the best for traction, the stock tires are great because they are light and have a rounded footprint. I find a 200X with stock tires is fun to ride because it can easily be thrown sideways. The best light tire I have found that gets great traction is the Mudbuster. light tires for light power! kenda scorpions are good, but the cheapo 400/450r stock tires are just hard to beat thats what i run and they are awesome!
