Well I got "EBAYED" again. Bought this supposed 85/86 ATC250R DG grab bar and it does not fit. It was in a DG bag marked 85/86 ATC250R.

The spacers are about 1/2 inch too long on both sides and seem to need to be cut down - I doubt the instructions originally said "cut to length".

From inside to inside of these spacers it measures about 8 and 1/2 inches and from iside to inside on the flats or front holes it is about 9 and 3/4 inches.

The holes do measure up from hole to hole - about 5 and 1/4" on center.

In addition it looks like even if I do cut the spacers down that the grab bar will hit this thing??? on the left of my tail light - what the hell is this bracket for anyhow???

And last does anyone recognize this grab bar as an 84 250R or maybe a 200X or 350X??

Thanks for any help!!!!

a while back i bought a new dg grabbar for my 86r and it looked just like that. it also would not fit and after trying to make it work i realized i was holding a 40 dollar piece of crap so i threw it across the street and bought a 25 dollar prm and was done.

Hey dirtcrasher, I don't know about the grab bar. just glad i didn't get it!

As far as the frame bracket in the pic, I looked at my R and it doesn't have that loop. closer inspection showed me that it used to be there but was broken or cut off some time.

I couldn't find it in a quick flip through of the factory service manual. I to would like to know what its for. Does it have something to do with the tool kit?

It will fit, but yes you will need to cut the spacers down about a 1/4" on each side. My bro bought one from DG a few months ago it said 85/86 250R and had to do this, after you cut the spacers you may have to force it a little but it will line up and look fine. Here are 2 pics of it, I dont think they will help much but here they are. In first pic (very bottom of pic) you should be able to see where the spacers have been cut down.

Hopefully yours will fit just fine - apparently mine was labeled wrong and is actually fits a 200X or 350X. But then again gvmc45 bought one and his fot like sh!t too.

Good luck - let us know!

Yours is an 86 right?? I can't tell the frame differences as I've never had an 86. It does look that if I trim the spacers it will go but then it hits the tailight brackets and that wire loop so there would be more cutting and grinding! That does not seem like DG to me?? What the hell is going on with these things??

That wire loop was there to support the tool box.

No kidding? So I guess if I ever want a tool box I don't want to remove that! I thought the tool box shared the 2 grab bar mounting holes?? Does that loop support the closing latch portion of it? That would make more sense.

The one I showed you (in my last post) is an 85 250R and the loop has been removed.

The toolbox is mounted on the two grab bar bolts and just rests against the loop for extra support. It didn't help mine though; my friend took it out with the front tire of his TRX250R.

In the Dennis Kirk catalog, it says you have to remove the oem taillight.

LOL what a piece of junk that thing is. Those cost 40 dollars? The prm units are much nicer, my old one bolted right to my R, without removing the taillight, or griding spacers down, or holding seances to bring elvis back from the dead. Same thing goes for my current one on my 350x. The prm's also look much better IMO.

I recieved the same one from Dennis Kirk and the only way it mounted was upside down. Hey it looks funny that the DG sticker is upside down, but who cares! It will not hit the light brackets this way, and I have had zero problems with it!

I just installed one of those on my project 85 250R. DG says that you can't use the factory taillight on the 85 or 86 250R with this grab bar. I modified the grab bar slightly to clear the brackets and it's on and looks good, but it's not exactly a bolt on out of the box.
