View Full Version : Mickey Dunlap Powroll Racing 200x TT Trike Replica -- ATC finished, see last page
Well, it begins!
I guess you can say that I had a brainstorm a few weeks ago. I was browsing through Mickey Dunlap's thread with all of the pictures, and I saw his 84 bike from when he raced for powroll. I then saw the flat track/mx bike pictures from years past. Like everyone else, I thought "hey thats pretty cool!:drool:". I began to think about replicating the bike and it has become more of a reality ever since. Here is what I'm planning, along with where/what member or company they will be sourced from.
Trust me, this puts quite the stress on a 16-year-old-with-a-summer-job's wallet. I hope that you guys appreciate all of the time, effort, and capital that I'm going through here. I certainly do! :D
Don't expect this to be like a 1 month build. Honestly I expect a summer finish, because the summer job with help bring in some funds!

Was Mickey's original 1984 have a Maier white 1985 ATC250R front fender? Was it painted or did Maier make white fenders back then? Also was the front tire a Dunlop KT576 23X8-11?
There's no way of knowing if they made them that far back, but I would think that they would. It does not look painted in the old pics. Nowadays, they make different color kits for pretty much any bike/quad. As far as the front tire goes, it is a dunlop 23x8-11, but Here is a pic of it and I don't see any other markings. Mickey had said that he's pretty sure that this was a one-off tire for his bike only.

If you zoom in on the part right below 23 x 8.00-11, it does look like it says KT or TT 576 in very small print
Something I forgot to include in the first post, the hub front, forks, and motor mount powder coating is being done for FREE by RNS powdercoating (tattool23 here on the boards)

SRP fiberglass fenders are what they look like in the picture and yes Maier had white as an option in 84 .

Yup,that's a Dunlop KT576 23X8-11, OEM for the 1985 ATC250R.

So here are some pics of the bike as it sits right now. Pretty rough, right? I have a lot of work to do...
Front end except for trees is removed, swinagrm is removed, and half of the pipe. Really busy week at school so tonight was the only time to get some work done. There is also a pic of the two swingarms next to each other, one the stock 83, the other my custom +2 (without fish plates) that is going to get a white powder coat.
I think im going ...

Looking forward to another GREAT triking year!:w00t:
I have three BRAND NEW parts on their way for now, MANY to come later on when they are available and something comes up.
#1 NOS Big Al's performance products (BAPP) 200x spring for extended swingarms from tom kreitzer sales in Port Trevorton PA
183630
#2 NOS 23.5 x 8-11 Front tire (nankang knobby) I know, i know, its a bit of a cheap tire, but for a NOS tire and $30 bucks I couldnt pass it up! from the same guy tom
183631
#3 New Clutch actuator lever from my local shop, it is still available because it was used on the 08-09 CRF230L
Blue27 here on the boards just finished my decal set and will have them on the way next week hopefully.
Here are the pics he sent me:
Fender decals-- Two not pictured... Sundahl recing products (SRP) and a large honda one for the front fenderhttp://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo339/blue2777/decals/2ddc4d48-7481-4eb0-9cfc-e12560eaf47b_zps648ba43c.jpg (http://s389.photobucket.com/user/blue2777/media/decals/2ddc4d48-7481-4eb0-9cfc-e12560eaf47b_zps648ba43c.jpg.html)

Got the NOS front today. Maybe not 100% NOS as the nubs are missing, but there is no wear other than it being a little dirty. eventually going to have a new front rim from douglas.
Old vs. New (tires are same size, just the old has air and is on a rim. new is not.)

Got my NOS BAPP (Big Al's) Spring today. It was made for extended swingarms and is a bit stiffer. It's a bit darker than the pics show it to be, because of flash. I'm guessing that the marks on it mean TOP, but I dont know. It doesnt seem like a mess-up on the part. Spring measures 7.9", well within Honda's limit of 7.77"

What a cool idea building this! Mickey might come knocking and want to buy it!! Looking forward to your progress.
If that is too much then I can always lower the preload. I will have to let Mickey ride it if he's comes to the nationals at Ashtabula. Oh and it will never be for sale lol

question for you pros while your on the subject:
i also have a fully modified 200x i just built, its motor is built to the max, my question is should i use the stock spark plug??
NGK DR8ES or DR8IEX
The IEX is an iridium plug and will run better but of course it costs more.
Specs on the motor?

Lookin good rg97...can't wait to see more!
I'm in the process of painting the trees and handlebar mounts right now. And just to put your mind at ease it is NOT rattle-can:lol:
I couldnt get any grey/silver paint for my gun so I went with my color scheme and they are going to be white. It's not really a detail that matter too much because the number plate covers the trees anyways.
Also, polished up the shock and got the new spring on, so now Thais all shiny and pretty now.
Used my dad's Millermatic 200 MIG to weld one of the swingarm fish plates on, but since we had not used the welder in a while, the .035 wire in spots was all starting to oxidize so one side of the plate we have to grind the bad welds off and re-do them with some better wire.
Took a few pics for you guys
#1,2,3 is the Supertrapp pipe after painting (its drying right now... 7 days to cure:drool:) Paint is VHT Flameproof 2000 Degree flat blue, as recommended by the man himself Mickey. I took a few pics with flash and one without so that there is no color enhancing
#4 is the trees, they are not done yet, the top is getting a third oat and the underside has yet to be done.
#5 is the shock all put together and polished up.
#6 is how the frame sits right now. Not done stripping it yet.

It isn't built to the max unless it's STROKED!!
Looking good bud. Straighten that exhaust connection before you spray it!
We need to get you powder coating :D
I do use powder coating most of the time, but I dont have access to my oven right now and the nooks and crannies of the trees would make it really hard to do it.
Lol steve you beat me to it, I didnt see a STROKER CRANK in hawaiirider's 200x!

I hate to give you the bad news but that pipe is going to kill the power,it's not the race pipe. It's long of a head pipe and there is no meg .
If you expected me to find a full powroll DD pipe for less than like $1000:crazy: then I would have one on there lol:lol:. I guess a full race supertrapp would work as well but they are hard to find as well. If I can get some specs on a full race supertrapp I could make a race muffler end with the meg with some tapered steel. Maybe from aircone. I only know of three powroll DD pipe's in existence. Yours, Steve Shroud's, and Yargerb's. You would find a 87 R before you found one of those pipes.:D

Definitely dump that exhaust; A SuperTrapp may be the best you can find and has discs you can play with. Unlike the OBNOXIOUS DG that is free flowing but extremely loud; And, not adjustable.
I have posted before that a member got a JEG's curved tubing and made it work; I believe it allowed him to run a larger ID at the head exhaust output.
That's what you want as well as a long tapered cone into the silencer. Nice, free flowing exhaust allowing some bigger jets as well as NOT running a lid on the airbox. Your building a race machine, not a mud bogger.....
Supertrapp made two different types, the one that I have, and the race one. The race one like you said DC tapers into the muffler. I found a few sites that make cones for 2 stroke pipes (Megs exhaust, aircone) and I measured, 1.5" Inlet, 3.5" Outlet, 10" long from 18ga material. Megs makes 1.5 in 3.5 out but it is 16.5 inches long. I might shoot them an email and see if I can get a custom one that is 10" not 16.5"

I have one of those DD pipes as well LOL and it has a NOS megaphone thanks to Mickey .

I'll trade my 90 motor for it
It has a piston from a honda 750cc (4 cyl) motorcycle, Pauter Machine cylinder, largest stroker they made/make, Largest WEB cam that they make, stong springs and retainers, BAPP intake, welded timing advance, full barnett clutch plates and springs, BAPP crankcase breather, 30 or 32mm carb, the rotten UNI filter (LOOONG GONE:lol:), the automatic clutch was modified to kick in at a higher RPM, and it almost breaks your hand to pull start it :lol:. He said he had to cut part of the insides out of the throttle so that it could open up the carb the whole way:lol:.
so here is what I'm thinking. Get a piece of tapered 18 ga tube from Aircone out of las vegas (my dad has dealt with them before for custom pipes for his Hi Performance ATC RD350) and fab it to fit the muffler that I have. Need to get some final measurements and send an email over to aircone.
Heres what I'm hoping that it will look like:

The big motor guy with Powroll below it go on the tank.
The small powrolls are for the front and rear fenders
the large powrolls were a mess up on my part (wrong description) but bruce gave em to me anyways.

I have some more NOS coming hopefully soon. Rear chain slider

20 day sorry lol
impressive nonetheless
So I got my new cover from the Mrs. Mosh aka Cosmic Quads, and I couldn't be happier!
In the pic, it isnt stapled, just sitting on the foam. I have a friend that stapled chair seat covers together for a living so I'm going to get his help stretching it on.

I should have included this earlier
I'm heading down to Mickey's shop on the 15th to get the fenders, some custom exhaust pipes and cones to build my own racing meg, and an oil cooler. I will put up an update once I get back and take some pics
Also, I've decided on Kirker Automotive Pacific Blue Paint (http://jaxpaintsupply.com/uploads/3/2/2/1/3221792/6332264_orig.png) from TP Tools. Anything aluminum (fork tubes, front hub) is getting a primer, color, and clear. (multiple coats of each). Anything steel (frame parts and frame itself) is getting a primer, rust stopper, color, and more clear. Once again multiple coats of everything.
Frame is 100% stripped, motor out (have some problems with that I need to take care of- bad seals and a paint touch-up) and When the weather improves (7+ inches snow tonight!!!!) I'm going to blast the frame.

Looking good. Before you staple the cover on,put a trash bag over foam. With sticked covers water soaks into the foam.On the cover start the 4 corners.Take your time is all and don't stretch it to tight.
So I sent the cover and pan out to my upholsty expert friend to have him do it. That was saturday. He said that the cover is a tad big but we can make work perfectly. He complimented Mrs. Moshes work ;)
More NOS as well. I just got my swingarm chain slider from Pete (petesatc) in the mail today. Part looks great as it should, and NO it isnt the $75 one on rip-off-Bay  I paid much less. The worst part was the shipping from UK actually

That looks great! I thought Jeswhinehart had reproduced these? And he is very fair and stands buy his work as well as having other colors and a better material for the slider.
I have an 85/86? 350X NOS slider I won't use as I change them over to 86 200X sliders because I have a half dozen!!
John may make them as well. I didn't pay a fortune for mine (looks allot like yours!!) only waiting to re-sell it.
My part number is - 010, so IDK what it fits.
Just checked, mine is the same as yours and for an 85 200X :D sorry I didn't offer it to you sooner as I have no need for it.....
Steve
John does 83-84 R sliders. I dont think that they are the same, but I cant say for sure because the links on his thread to pictures of them are broken.
Dont worry about it steve. I had fun helping the British economy. Pete can go buy himself a few more cups of earl grey tea now
Hold onto it for another 50 years and sell it for a grand
If anyone is wondering why I dont update this super often is because I'm getting everything, and I mean EVERYTHING together before I go to work. Nothing wrong with that, but once I get everything together reassembly should go quickly.
So I'm still waiting on the cover. No rush there.
I took a ride down to Mickey Dunlaps place today meaning to get some megaphone components and the fiberglass low-pros. I ended up getting a set of NOS carlisle R/A's as well. 16" x 7.5" x 8". Perfect for ashtabula TT. I will need 6x8 rims (DWT via eBay)
I will try and get a pic of the exhaust when I can. It's still in the back of the truck
As for the fenders, I'll be in touch with Bruce (blue27) shortly for the side stickers. Probably just going to be basic black rectangles

Put the rest of the decals on the low-pros. Still need the black one with numbers for the rectangular indent, which Bruce (blue27) are working on. Will update when I get those done. These are in the order that Mickey told me and showed me.
Also, I ordered a stainless SHCS from motorsport fasteners via eBay. It says to use anti-seize, but I'm going to use this stuff that is even better, called Blue Goo.
Heres how they turned out:

Hello rg97;
Saw your stainless steel engine kit. Some of those come with either stainless washers for the cyl head nuts or no washers at all. Not sure if you know this so I thought I'd mention that you need copper sealing washers under the nuts on the head. Still avail in your favorite link below.

BTW- The only way that these will scratch is at the raceway. Other than a few rides around the yard when its done, that just about all. I've considered clearcoating the fenders once all of the decals are on.
The engine isnt going to be touched other than a seal replacement on the clutch actuator and the kicker. It already has 100% socket heads.

I would not clear the fenders, that is a prob waiting to happen, especially with the decals on. One option is to put some low adhesive clear plastic over the fenders for riding purposes but I would not leave it on. It may try to lift the decals also when you remove it anyway but not if the decals are on good. You can get rolls of the plastic in the kitchen section of home depot etc.
Nice job on the bike.

Why is clearing over the gel coat and decals a problem waiting to happen? Please Explain.

If it matters... one coat is not enough. If I were to do them (why not?:wondering) then I would be putting 4-6 on.

Did you get a hold of some mid 1970's Lacquer clear? Today's Enamel and Urethane clears only require 2-3 wet coats, and there is such a thing as too much at one time. You can get cracking and other issues if you lay too much clear on in one session.
If you want 4-6 I would suggest doing 3 coats wet. Allow the clear to fully cure, wet sand off a mil or so of paint (mil is roughly one sprayed layer), then spray on 2-3 more wet coats and wet sand and buff. It will be a mirror like finish if done right with no orange peel.
I would be putting 4-6 on.
I was taking a guess, thanks for the correction and info. I do a lot of paint and PC but not clear.

Excerpt of instructions for clearing decals from a decal mfg.
6. Apply 2 light tack coats of Automotive Urethane clear following manufacturers mixing directions… (NEVER use a store bought Spray Can Clear)
7. Apply 2 medium coats…
8. Apply your final wet coats and bury the decal in clear.
Even though you have experience doing painting, I suggest you at least do some online research regarding this subject. I am not implying that I don’t think you know how to paint, even though by my math you are around 16 1/2 years old [based on a legal drinking age of 21], I am simply saying that painting clear over decals is NOT the same process/technique as painting clear over new base coat on a car or motorcycle fuel tank etc..
You may already know some of the following.
REDUCER AND COAT APPLICATION - Reducer in the clear can cause the edges or possibly other areas of the decals to lift if the initial coat is too heavy and/or the percentage of reducer is more than the decals can tolerate and/or the second coat is applied to soon and/or too heavy etc..
A “heavy” coat of clear can EASILY run on surfaces that are not flat, especially if it is done as a first coat instead of being done over an initial light “tack” coat.
DECAL APPLICATION- In m y experience, decals typically adhere better if the surface they are applied to is abraded lightly with fine sandpaper like around 1000 grit or gray scotch brite. If this is not done, the clear has a greater potential to cause the decal to lift.
DECAL PREP – Not all decals are created equal. Some decals benefit from being abraded lightly with a used gray scotch brite pad. This helps the clear to adhere, thereby reducing the potential for it to run.
CLEAR TYPES – Urethane is a common clear to use over stickers. I would not use lacquer. There are clears that do not use reducer.
As I mentioned in my previous post, you have done a very nice job on your bike and I also know how long this type of detail work takes. I am also guessing that some of the decals might not have been easy to come by or cheap. Irregardless, I am simply trying to help and would hate for your hard work to get damaged when clearing over the decals. It’s really that simple.mo

I would show you the underside of the fenders (there is no coat there and they are black fiberglass) but I dont have my camera right now. They are fiberglass with a white coat over them. This is not your usual "atv plastic"
Barnett, When I said that I do paint and powder but I dont do clear that doesnt mean I'm not willing to learn.
As much as I thank for the decal instructions, they are already on. As you said, I did shell out some capital for those decals. They arent coming back off.
I will follow the instructions for the clear that I get. This isnt home depot rattlecan stuff. Kirker Automotive clear.
EDIT: My 1,000th post!!!!!
Ok so I have a small update in words but a big one for me.
I have three rims on the way, a stock size .190 DWT for the front, and two 2+4, 4/110, 6x8 wheels for the back. .125" thick. Odd size for the carlisle R/A's, they're actually considered a front wheel . Disappointed that two back rims cost less than one front one, but what are you gonna do.
I finally found a business about 15 min form my house that will powdercoat my frame cheaply. I've been quoted anywhere from 250 to 350, and this guy says it will take 125-150 if everything is pre-blasted (it is). WOW. Heading there monday to pick out a color, then will drop it off to hopefully be done by the end of the week. I also have fork bottoms and a hub to PC in the same color so I'll include them too.
Also got in touch with a friend with an original Powroll Dual-Diameter pipe. He's letting me borrow his to get some measurements to make my own. If it turns out well, then mass production could be and option :naughty:. So, I ordered some tubing (is over .25" more diameter than a stock header for "mega-flow")
And dont flame for this, but I'm excited for Indians opening day! Listening to it now! Tribe fans unite (thats you Camexican!) shens

I built my first banshee when I was 16 and I couldn't afford to buy one so I built it piece by piece scoured the junk yards and friends of friends (didn't have internet back then) but finally got it done and the joy I felt was tremendous I know you are gonna feel that same joy when this build comes to fruition :)

A strange rim fits a stranger tire! 16" tall, 7.5" wide, 8" rim height. 16x7.50x8 Never see ones like it before.
I will try and get pictures once they are mounted. The front rim should be here tuesday. Backs this upcoming saturday (tomorrow).
Loki I know how you felt. Just rebuilt my first banshee last summer/fall. Has too many wheels and is too heavy shens
If (when )I run out of cash for now then I'll have to wait until I'm out on summer break. 5 days a week, 8 hour days (7 am to 3:30 minus 30 min lunch) at the metal stamping plant.

04-05-2014, 06:01 PM
yeah banshees are too heavy and they do have too many wheels BUT they are still dune kings :) so on a side note how much did you pay for your stroker crank? did you have to do any trenching to get it to work?
I paid 250 from ebay. New ones from powroll will run you 500ish. No trenching needed, but I did send the piston away to have the bottom cut for clearance.
Poohbee just saw your post edit. I'm running a brand new stock size knobbie, a very close match to oem. I can bring the forks up in the trees to get the bike level with the small back tires.
Heres some pics. Rims came. Not mounted yet, but getting there slowly.
I was wrong about rim sizes. Wheel and tire sizes are backwards of each other. On a tire size, its "Tire Diameter X Width X Rim diameter" but on rim sizes it is " Diameter X Width" See where its backwards? Confused me, but I did get the right size thankfully. Actually 8x6, not 6x8.

For TT racing they will work fine.Other than that you might bend one pretty easy.
Yep, TT is just about all they'll be used for. I'm keeping the original backs (75-80% tread left) to do cruising on.
I had my first chance to mount the tires at 9:30 because of a busy day, not to mention that I'm sick and just about everything that I eat is going out both ends unhappily :(
I got one tire done, these things are a real pain to set the beads on, at least in my method. I cant afford one of dose "automatik fancy schmancy tire-mountin masheens"

Thats pretty much it. Only took one strap on the one side, but I did keep my valve stem in. Wasnt working right with it out. I have a couple of the latching air chucks but none of them were working so I had to opt for a normal chuck. My dad held the chuck in while I used my two free hands to get everything seated. Beads popped on around 15-17 psi.

Looks good!
I had to put a tube in my front tire and let it sit pumped up before it was shapely enough to seat. Ratchet strap wasn't doing me any good. They straighten right out once pumped up though. I was frustrated enough to consider the lighter fluid route :D
Well, the tires turned out to be a two person job. One hand to hold the chuck on, the other three to bounce and work the rubber. Eventually, after about 10 minutes, we got the other two mounted. This was after I tried for about an hour and a half to do it myself. I was ready to throw the tires through my garage door windows.
Here they are now... 21 PSI in the backs right now, about 3-4 in the front.
Swingarm is ready for white powder, dropping it off tomorrow. It had gotten a little surface rusty (and I think it looks really bad!!!!) since it sat in the 70 day temps to 35 nights in a humid garage, even with WD40 on it. Nothing a lil Steelprep (http://www.enchemcorporation.net/index.php?pageID=8435_2) wont fix. The picture makes the weld on the fish plate look rough IMO but it is actually pretty darn nice, it has been ground down flat a little.
As soon as the tapered stem bearings and front bearings come in, we'll be in business for the back.
Not sure if I mentioned it, but the engine is coming completely apart (unless I dont have time before the Ashtabula nationals), eveything removed, re-blasted, and painted. Probably not going to do PC. Need it to be a flat black, like the original was.

Yes, Bruce is a great guy and does good work!
So, your in PA and we can't get you to Trikefest?? C'mon, who cares what you bring. Just show up on a moped and meet our true personalities. I should have my 200X there if I can jam this 32MM FCR in there; Not much room at all and definitely NO AIRBOX!! Pod filter on the way.
Hope to meet you anyhow and we always have spare trikes to ride, if I'm on my 200X or 350X#1, you can ride either. Otherwise I'll have to bring the 350X and 350RX if this thing isn't a rocket. Getting race gas Friday............
No DC, unfortunately not making it to TF. Not because of the bike, its that my family really isnt into that sorta thing if that makes sense. Heck, on your way you could come and take a look at the bike lol
Updates, not much really big
-all of the wheels are mounted and ready to install as soon as it's ready
-The tapered stem bearings are being a real pain
-Have the swinger and other misc frame/seat mounting parts at the powder place (white)
-I actually took my pipe to the local muffler shop to have it bent into shape, but he said "we cant do that, but you can go to this guy that specializes in it" so I did, and I called and he said "yeah, we're open til 5 today..." So off i went around 4 pm. Turns out that they have a separate exhausts division that closes at 4 and I didnt make it.. Needless to say I was  Deepa...
I need to give myself a swift kick in the rear to get this done, as I want to take it up to the ashtabula nats in late july. Anyone else going to be there?

I'm still watching this. Actually really excited to see it done!
So almost a month later, heres where we stand.
The swinger and suspension assembly is together. The trees finally went together  so I got the forks in and the tire ready to go in once I get my caliper set up. I've been cleaning and putting together stuff on the frame a little at a time.
I have some brake updates, thanks to a thread here: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/65970-brake-caliper-swaps-for-83-85-200x-s?goto=newpost
CR85 master cylinder in the back. CR85 caliper in the back. Probably a kx80 caliper in the front (havent gotten there yet ).
Today was a great day to paint (80 deg, calm, 50% humidity) so I went down to lowes and got some primer and flat black. This is what I call my "redneck painting booth"

good eye! The bushings that you see in there are made from nylon or Delrin. I bought them on ebay a couple months ago and I'm just now getting to use them. the motor is probably going to be the last thing to do. It needs a complete blast and repaint because I did it wrong the first time and it didn't turn out very well in my opinion.

Btw second coat of paint is drying ( it said 24 hrs btwn coats :| ) on the hubs and footpegs. Any of you guys who have done it before, whats a good baking temperature and for how long once im ready for that?
Oh yeah and I have stainless braided brake lines and new throttle and clutch cables coming, theyre in the mail. 4th of july slowed delivery...
Im considering new bars, anything you guys would recommend on the cheap side? Im thinking under $40.

So?.........I will be building something similar very soon ;)
The bike is about 90% complete (rolling chassis, engine in, wiring done) no pictures right now, but I need to buy an intake manifold, rebuild the stock carb, buy a longer chain, then tig weld up the custom pipe, which is what I'm really looking forward to. I have been working on the bike but often times i've been too busy to take pictures, upload them to photobucket, then get them here with a description. The winter has been really tough to get work done, it's often in the single digits and we have over 12" of snow. I can barely keep up around the house, let alone get an hour or two to work on the bike.

I don't know much about 200x's but I would think you'd want to upgrade from a stock carb with all the motor work you have done. Maybe Mickey or some other experts could chime in, I'd hate to see your bike not running at full potential.

I have a 28 flatslide that I considered putting in, but theres just not enough room on the frame to fit it, because it needs to sit level, have a route for the cable to go through, and match up decently close to the head/intake manifold. I have tried, it just doesnt work. Now, that doesnt mean that some other 28mm carb wont fit, but I would love to run it on the stock carb for a while because the motor has been down for almost a year now

It fits with an intake you make. I ran a used one, bought the new one and went with another option. Up here in the freezing cold, I could not get it 100%.

Notch the frame or build a custom intake. Your gonna want that bigger carb.

I'd much rather go with the intake option. The frame is a new powder coat, so I'd rather not put a notch in it. I'll try and get some pics up of the rolling frame today. The custom intake would give me a good chance to try out my new spoolmatic with aluminum

so here's a list of things I still need to do:
-get all of the controls going and set up
-bleed front brakes
-fix my intake/carb situation
-exhaust, whether that be one that I get from mickey or the one I make
-new chain because if the extended swinger
-probably repaint/repowdercoat the gas tank
-Find a +6 axle (not a necessity)

And, I wont finish it with some beer, as I'm not legal to drink for another 4.5 years. Do the math.
its not illegal till your caught
So I stepped away from this build (and the forum, honestly) for about 5 years. Things get busy with life (I started this in 2013 when I was 16) and the covid quarantine has finally given me a chance to catch up on it. I've inserted a pic, but everything looks basically the same as it was years ago. This week I've got the front brakes working (rears need parts, coming this week), put in a 14T sprocket since those 16" tires need more gearing, and FINALLY got the mikuni TM28 working with a temporary custom intake (still looking for a cast AL one), but the jetting is way off. It idles but more than half throttle is impossible. The front tire needs a tube, it's leaking around the bead. When I left it, the chain tensioners were completely stripped so I fixed those with some new parts as well.
So what is there still be to be done? Not much honestly. Get the carb tuned correctly, get rear brakes, and clean it up. Honestly thinking about selling the bike since I may be moving before the end of the year and I can't take it with me. Impossible to put a price on it all but we'll see.

Yeah, the stock carb was running a 130 main and seemed like that was about all it had to give. Thought I would give the 28 a try, but my keihin to mikuni transition on jets needs work. According to the almighty internet a 130 keihin is a 115 mikuni. But they're not even close, the 115 is tiny. The 130 keihin that was in there looks more like a 190-210 mikuni based on what I have in my jet box. Just need to mess around with it til she's happy.

When you're older you'll regret selling the things you had when you were younger. I know life happens but if there's any way you can keep this around your future self will thank you. I've owned my TRX250R since I was 19, I'm 47 now and so glad I still have it!
Hey all, got everything finished up today. Still dealing with the forks tubes leaving some oil on the forks but it's not a huge deal. Thanks to everyone for your help through this whole project. Just FYI the TM28 was happy with a 15 pilot/230 main/bottom clip on needle (richest). She's a tad rich at half throttle but the 28mm carb was the best decision I've made on this bike. Huge difference.
I believe that I've found a place for the bike when I move at the end of this year. Some close family has the garage space for it and it's almost too much of a project to let go.

Hard to price an item like this but I am taking offers and no trades, nothing really out there for me to compare it to, but I probably have over $2000 in it over time.
