View Full Version : Restoring Pro Honda Vented Helmet (Should I?) and HOW?

I just picked up a fairly nice Pro Honda Vented helmet. This is the one that was in the 350X ads back in '85 and '86.
It looks better in the pic than it is really. Bunch of scratches, chips, etc.
Id like to get it repainted to match OEM and also fix the liners inside...they are also kinda rotted out.
I'd also need stickers as the color gradients are stickers NOT paint.
Should I do this or leave it alone...thoughts?

If you plan on using it,I say don't do it.helmets that old won't do anything to protect you in a crash.if you want to restore it to put on a shelf? Then I say go for it.I change helmets once a year.if I hit the ground in one,its trashed immediately!!! You can't put a price on yo melon!!!

If I was going to wear it, I would just replace the liner. If I was going to throw it on a shelf, I would just do the paint/stickers.
If you intend it to be an investment/collectable then either don't touch it, or have it fully restored properly.

Restored is never quite a cool as original. You remove those scratches and you remove the history.

Hard to argue with that.

Thanks everyone! Yep you are right man. I am going to 'touch it up' by trying to match the paint....but leave the stickies on and AS IS!! :)

i would not touch a thing on it, if you so much as touch it with paint, you ruin the value by at least 50%. jsut leave it alone, sit it int he shelf and enjoy you have it.
BTW i have them britches that rider is wearin (some just like them) in your photos. ;)

You bought the helmet to enjoy, Enjoy it. If you bought it to hopefully make money with it in the future. Leave it alone.
I am A Professional Auctioneer, I have seen many people ruin the value of their items by "restoring". Again, you do with it what you
want, Just make sure you Enjoy It.
