85 250R motor inter change with ..........

I recently bought a 1985 Honda 250R atc and was wanting to pick up a spare motor (combat spare) just in case I blow the one up thats in it. I have seen a bunch of motors on e-bay and some of them seem to be water cooled 250rs that are out of trxs(1988-89???) . Will they interchange with my 1985 and also what about the 1986 will it interchange. I am just a little confused and dont want to get screwed. thanks for all your help. I just got my digital camera and as soon as I get a picture of my trike ill get it posted . Oh yes by the way that sucker runs hard the guy I bought it from said it is scary fast and he was not kidding.I love it. Glenn Oister

Any 86-89 TRX 250r motor will bolt into your frame. There are internal differences between the 86-87 and the 88-89 motors, (88-89 has a longer connecting rod, different piston, gearing differences) but if you are buying a complete unit it's not something you need to worry about. It seems pretty common for racers to grab motors and swingarms from complete 86 ATC's for their race machines, I for one don't mind seeing someone do the reverse. :D
