Shipping rates for a trike?

How would a guy go about getting shipping rates for my atc 70? I've had several guys inquiring and I don't have the slightest clue on how or who to obtain a rate for them.

You can call FedEx Freight or any other freight carrier and get a quote. What they will need is length, width, height, weight, and destination. Without a freight account, freight rates will not be cheap also factor in no truck dock at either pickup or destination however if you palletize the trike and take it to a freight hub and have it delivered and held at a freight hub will be cheaper. I have shipped everything from tiny boxes to large industrial machines all over the world. Your best bet as average Joe shipper with no freight account, call FedEx freight and talk with them. If you know anybody who works somewhere with a truck dock and a freight account you can use would be the cheapest way to go. There is a place called U Ship. just a bit of advice if you make an inquiry with u ship. Do NOT give them a phone number. I did once and my phone rang off the hook for a solid 2 weeks. Literally 8-10 calls a day for 2 weeks and 1-2 calls for the following week or so.

I actually do have a shipping account with a few freight carriers and have looked at some rates. I didn't have an exact weight but I figured around 350 lbs. and my cost was just under $200 using Con-Way. I will look into Fed Ex and see. Good thing about my location is I do have a shipping dock :lol:. Let me know what you find out from Fed Ex and maybe it will work out. Do you think it would fit on a standard 4' x 4' pallet? If so it shouldn't be too bad as it should qualify for a pallet rate. Let me know about the dimensions and weight and I will get a firm quote. Thanks for looking into this for me.

I have found that U-SHIP is the cheapest because you can name your own price. Find out what everyone else will do it for then cut that down to what you want and post it on U-SHIP.

It was going to cost me about $700 in gas to drive over to ILL. and haul a VW Bus back to PA.,I posted a price I would pay of $500. With in 3 hours I had 2 guys that said they would do it.

I also had a Kawasaki 700 shipped from Las Vegas to PA. for $500.

I don't know how accurate placing a bathroom scale under each tire is, but I came up with 190lbs. it should fit just fine on a pallet.

In 2004 I bought an 1985 ATC 250r from New York and had it shipped to Phoenix Az for $600.
The company I used was named forward air and they provided the sealed container but had to be strapped in container

I had a 70 shipped from North Carolina to North Dakota for 300 off of u Ship some quotes are good some are ridiculous.

With u-ship you don't have to do anything,they pic it up as is,gas and everything.

The stock weight of a 70 is about 170lbs. An average 4x4 pallet weight is about 40lbs. Add 10lbs for dunnage, strapping, padding etc so that puts you at an estimated shipping weight of 220lbs MOL. If the wheels are removed and stowed on the pallet, it should fit nicely within the perimeter of a 4x4 pallet. The trike will need to have all fuel removed but the engine oil is ok. I shipped two 70s several years ago and I got both of them to fit on a 4x4 plastic pallet but both trikes were partially disassembled and everything removed was packed and stowed on the pallet. The guy buying them used Uship and I got a call from the transporter at 2am saying they were in town and wanted to pick up the pallet. Turned out to be a couple of guys with a horse trailer. They moved the pallet ok but I was a bit Leary but in the end it turned out ok. For a commercial transporter, the trike will need to be palletized so it can be loaded and unloaded with a forklift or pallet cart. Most commercial transporters will pickup a pallet and that pallet will be unloaded and loaded on another trailers perhaps two or three times as it makes its way to its destination. With FedEx Freight, you can bet a pallet going from St Louis to Redding CA, that pallet will be moved from one FedEx trailer to another at least three times so the better packed and secured the trike is, the better it will travel. If you ship it on New2tri-Z's using Conway, You will probably need to take the trike ready to travel to a Conway terminal but I'm sure Conway has a terminal somewhere in or around St Louis.

With our fedex rates at work that pallet would cost us about 200 to a commercial 300 to residential ... I just shipped a 270lb pallet from texas to idaho for $150 ..

I use uship exclusively. I have had incredibly good luck by trying to be smart. Which you would have the"feel" to Brian. However. I just bought a 200X off Mrclean and it is stolen. The shipper loaded it up and disappeared. I have ALWAYS,every time. Had my seller video the shipper/license/individuals etc as they leave. But I didn't this time. Police report is filed and I'm relying on Mrscleans memory now!!! But overall,I have had incredibly good luck getting bikes moved as is,drive on drive off. No crating. You can post the auction for free with no obligation. Doesn't cost a thing. Like Mickey said, I list my own price. But that's up to you.

I also have recently used u-ship. It was great and I still have his name and number. As soon as you post you will usually get somebody that will bid a very expensive amount right off. Its very easy to decline the offer. My last experience started at $755 I think and within 2 days the bids were as low as $300. I payed the $300 plus gave the shipper an extra $20.
