Recently picked up the machine from a good friend who's come across a 350X, so he up and gave me his '84 200x. Overall in "ok" condition. Needs a few things to be up to par. Biggest problem I'm having is the kick start won't fully engage. . .like it's slipping. So I pulled the kick start cover off and the gears look great! No wear marks on anything really.

I heard there should be one or two springs pertaining to the gear assembly? I've been trying to find a parts blow up of the assembly and can't seem to find anything anywhere :/ Not sure what else to do at this point. If someone out there has a diagram they could email me or just post in a reply to this thread that would be fantastic!

Best Regards to everyone!

If everything looked good when you pulled the cover off then unfortunately you have a bigger issue that will require splitting the case if you want to fix it. The kick starters on these bikes had some design flaws that led to them failing, if you search around there are a lot of threads on the topic.

Before you do that, check your splines! I had the same problem, and my kicker screw wasnt tightened enough and the splines werent gripping.
Do this. Whenever it 'slips', can you bring the kicker back up without noise? If yes, then its something internal. If no, check your splines.

same problem i have. one of the kickstarter gears binded or broke teeth off and are not catching. split the case and the job will become apparent.

If its the tranny side of the kicker gears yes it will be obvious and missing teeth BUT if its ratchet teeth that are worn its hard to tell and defiantly not apparent .

Just found out yesterday the friend I got the machine from backed off a "set bolt" located in the backside of the case. Also found out there's a flat spot on the secondary shaft for this bolt to seat and hold one of the springs in place. . .thinking I may have found the problem before even diving into it. . .fingers crossed though :/ Haven't had a chance to do the split yet. Trying to find a heater for the garage, nothing worse than working with cold tools :/ lol

I found an old post regarding slipping 200x kickstarter . If you still have repair parts,I'd really like to buy them.Really want to keep the old 200x manual clutch instead of swapping auto engine . I tried to PM ,but I guess that my new member status won't allow ? Thankyou , Tim

I’ve been dealing with a slipping kick starter for 5 years. It never even crossed my mind to attempt to repair it! I always just figured I’d kick it again. Maybe I’ll give it a look.

Yes I have a kit still available .Hey shortline 10. I'm reviving a 85 200x that I bought new, sold, and recently reacquired. Thinking I've got a problem with the kicker because it slips now and then. I see a year or so ago that you had a remedy. Do you still?

I have back up 4 or 5 sets this year and installed proper shims, it's the 2nd best fix. I did one 10 years ago that still held up. $75 + shipping both ways. contact me directly. I use to offer it as a service on ebay but I am tired of ebay taking all my small profits.
