ok so my 250es lost compression and i found a good cheap motor on ebay. so we pulled the old motor out and last night we were trying to install the new motor. we were having problems getting the drive shaft to line up. so i got the bright idea to pull the "tranfer unit" that connects to the shaft off the motor. i was thinking once the motor was set end we could work it back in and line up the shaft easier. well im pretty sure i made alot more work for my self now since we cannot figure out how to get all the gears to line back up to put this back in. so my question is does the cases have to be split to reinstall this? thats what it looks like to me
:mad::mad:

this is the part i pulled out ...because im an idiot

Zoomer is exactly right. If you're going to fix that, the motor has to be completely disassembled and at that point, you might as well replace the seals, clutch plates and have the top end done but that's just me.
