My 225 dx doesnt like to start when its cold outside, In the summer it started first pull, every time. now that its cold outside its a real ***** to start, after i get it started it runs perfect, and once its warmed up it will fire up first pull like usual. Spark is great, choke works properly. I had to spray brake clean into the intake to start it. I really dont like doing that and dont plan on doing it again, any one have this problem before, or have any ideas to make it start in the cold? I forgot to mention I dont use the electric start, it does not work and I dont know much about electrical to troubleshoot it, no power at all when a battery is hooked up, no lights etc...

Brake cleaner, OMG !!! AAAHHH..that will strip the oil from your rings and cylinder so bad. Don't EVER do that again..
At least quick start spray have a lubricant additive. If you must use spray invest in some!!!
But back to the point..your carb has a plunger style choke that opens a bypass and sends a flood of extra fuel to aid in cold start. If it's not working your choke plunger is either misadjusted or the cold start jet from the bowl to the plunger port is restricted.
A good cleaning and choke adjustment as per the service manual should fix..then you can toss the spray can away forever!

After your carb is spotlessly clean and adjusted. Adjust your valve lash to .003-.004,usual problem on the little Yammies. Intake valve recesses back into the valve seat and bleeds compression off. Life is WAY too short to be pull starting a healthy 225. Hook jumper cables up to your dead battery from a known good battery. With the 225 in neutral, jump a good screwdriver across the 2 main wires on the solenoid, thereby jumping your batterys electrical directly to your starter. If the starter works, you know that is good, then you simply troubleshoot backwards from there why it isn't working,,solenoid, starter switch etc. Don't jump from a computer controlled vehicle, the arc can mess up the systems on a vehicle, old tractor,or a good unhooked battery is preferable.

Yeah weather or not, a good rebuilt clean carb (including compressed air through each airway once apart including the choke area) should work. Plus valve adjustment will help alot. Should not have a prob.

Ok thanks, I didnt think it was the choke because it does afect the engine if I open it while its running, but I will take your adivice and give the carb a good cleaning. The valves should be good the engine was rebuilt by a "professional" before i bought it. I will have to spend a weekend working on it and I guess its time to learn how to adjust the valves.
I didnt realize break clean was so bad, but either way I dont plan on spraying anything into the engine ever again, I dont think anything would be good for it and I just wanted to see if it would still run, rookie mistake. Thanks for the advice.
