I've been searching for a really good tank swap for my horribly discolored tank, which is a problem I'm sure most T3 owners are plagued with... Been looking at early 80's KX500's but haven't been able to put my hands on one yet. Anyone ever tried it?

I would contact mrs.mosh and get a seatcover tank cover made. It would be wasy easier. someone used a KX500 88-03 tank on one but not sure if thet shrouds clear the wide tripples.

My brother has a Ceet brand cover on his, I think it looks a lot better than a brown tank. Clarke also makes a tank but reviews are hit and miss, you can do a search for that.

Clarke makes new tanks for the T3s.
I have heard that the newest production tanks for the T3 are great in comparison to the first run.
HRE made Swinehart and I aluminum tanks that turned out nice. Not a lot of options.

Cochran, do you have a pic of your trike with the aluminum version?

It's going to be just as tough getting your hands on a good used KX tank of that vintage as a Tecate tank.

I've got a CEET cover on my 200X. Highly recommended.

What about a newer KE100 tank. I have no idea if it would be anywhere close to working but it should be the right color and cheap.

i have done a kx tank swap on my 85 an it looks groovy and all but they dont hold near the gas the stock tank does and most tanks of that era are "stained" anyhow. i would go with a cover or break the bank and spring for an aluminium one like swinhearts

First off I really dislike tank covers, and theres no way in hell I would spend 600 on a tank(sexy as it may be! VERY nice work BTW!!) but I only spend that much on a whole running T3!!

90nut, Do u have a pic of your kx tank swap? what year did u use?

I know what you mean on the tank covers. But for the cost, and they do look WAY better than a brown tank. I think it would even be a good temporary solution until you come up with something else.

I just figured with all the interchanges that people have come up with that there would be a better solution to this problem than a tank cover. I didnt like tank covers back in '85 when they were popular, sorry just my opinion. To each his own, right?

Yeah if you are that against them then don't get one. I was thought they sucked as well until I saw the difference it made in the appearance of my brothers bike.
Have you seen the DC plastics covers at all?
Cheap used.

Ya I did see those last night, they look like a better alternative than a tank cover for sure. I was just hoping for a good swap suggestion. I remember the '78 or '79 KX's had a very similar shaped tank...

Mines still new/unused, was thinking about kreaming the inside before filling it with gas, anyhow it looks better than the original thrashed tank I had to start with.
