so as alot of you know, i've been looking for a 250r for about a year now, and i just gave up hope on buying one, because they are just SO over priced, but today i decided to check CL and found a 84 250r for sale for cheap :D it needs a couple things, its missing the rear fender and seat, other than that everything else is good, a tad bit of surface rust on the swing arm but nothing a drill grinder cant get off. the guy is actually gonna deliver me it too! cant wait to get it slap a seat on and ride it lol. should be great ill put up some pics when i get it tomorrow if i still have time, gonna be super busy.
anyway any advice for a new 250r owner? :)

Most important advice, wear your brain bucket! It's one thing to go for a slow, Farmall-A paced putt-putt on a Big Red or something with no bucket, but nobody rides a machine like an R slow! Lots of self proclaimed "experienced" riders get thrown from an R the first time they throw a leg over one....
Have fun and take care of it. It's a little piece of history they just don't make anymore and parts are only going to get more scarce as the years go by. Not saying don't ride it the way it was meant to be ridden, just take care of her!

Lucky dog... Lol. Good for you dude! Enjoy, and ride smart!
brain bucket, i call it a skid lid personally, helmet, whatever you want to call it... just remember that it WILL save your life... and hey man, dont be overconfident. that helped get these machines banned back then

So I got it today, and their were a couple more problems with it, it's gonna need axle bearings and a kicker, the kicker stripped not the shaft (thank god) so I didn't get her running yet, tomorrow I'll get a kicker and clean the carb and put new gas in. One other thing, when i smelled the gas to me it smelled like regular gas not mixed? I couldn't really tell by looking at it, so I'll have to just drain the gas out of the tank too.

Some of the synthetic oils are hard to see in the gas. Dip your fingers in and roll your thumb and pointer finger together. The gas will evaporate and you should be left with greasiness on your fingers.

Just like a woman, performance matters. You can close your eyes
Congrats on the airfooler, warm it up good and if it's dialed in, it will be very snappy!
If you ever need it rebuilt, I have every bearing and seal for those motors. OEM Honda that may be discontinued, I'm not sure.
Always wear your gear!! That R will toss you right off!

Oil will be especially hard to detect in the fuel if the previous owner mixed it at 50:1 which seems very popular these days....Particularly if the oil is natural color and not dyed like Amsoil and such....

True that^^^. I run either 32 or 40:1 in my 2 strokes. Not that I have any 2 stroke wheelers.

Ok found out it was mixed, but I gotta get a coil for it, took the plug out and tested the spark and nothing, so I'm pretty sure that's the problem, I was gonna get some pics but it's all apart now, I'll try to upload the cl pics to hold u guys for now.

Yeah guys, got some good new!! I was checking the spark yesterday and it was completely dead so I pulled out the wire from the coil and found that it wasn't in the whole way, so put it back in, gave it some gas pumped it once and started first kick!! It is such an beast!!
X owner
JUST KIDDING lol...
But thats what we want!
you got lucky thats what all was wrong with the spark, now go ride that crap out of it! (and stay safe!)

As awesome as it is to get one, I think this goes without saying on any trike. But with what you'd have to put into one, 99% of them time you'll end up still paying around what it would have cost to just buy a running model anyways. That said, where's the fin in that?

That is a pretty good deal!!
Its rough, but for $300, I'm jealous! lol
I'm sure that with some TLC and money-throwing, it'll be a great daily bike

Oh she runs great now, but the pipe had a hole in it, and so much compression going thru it, it made a huge hole lol, so I gotta get a pipe real soon

Lol first trail pros i've seen that were wore down a bit... and they still have about 25+ years left on them =)
For 300 bucks you can't go wrong.. my 200x for 200 looked worse and I rode it till I broke it and fixed it up as a winter project!
I suggest run it like it was meant to be! Fix er as you go!
Have fun and wear your HELMET =D

Looks like you have quite the shopping list!
FYI it has 85/86 250r front end on it
I wouldn't be running it without an airbox/ filter or at least just a filter.
Did it come with any of the missing pieces?
Front brake caliper, line, lever,
Grab bar
silencer?
airbox/filter
chain
Hardware for tank, etc
engine skid plate
lights
