Hey guys, I have my new trike up and running for the most part but I have a question or two if you guys don't mind answering I would appreciate it. First, the trike to me seems a bit cold natured (doesn't want to idle very well until hot). I say that cause it seems I constantly have to tinker with the idle screw all the time (I have completely gone thru the carb and rebuild it top to bottom ). Second, I am hearing a ticking sound coming from the valve train periodically. I have set the valve lash to spec (.002) on both intake and exhaust valves, but I still get this ticking sound that gets loud at times (louder than stock) and then goes away for a period and then comes back. I am curious if it might be a valve sticking a little, and if so is there something I can try lubricant wise that may help ( id rather not tear it down if I can help it right now). I am just curious if the valves have been known to stick on these engines... You guys should know that the trike sat for a number or years but when it was put away it ran perfectly fine. So far I have ran about a tank of fuel and she seems to run ok other than these few things... Any help on this would be appreciated!!

When you rebuilt the carb did you blow it out with a compressor? A nossle with a rubber tip will allow you to blow out every orifice.
The 200's are very noisy engines. They sound kinda like a sewing machine. When it starts making allot of noise does it get really hot? Something could be blocking the oil flow to the top or the oil pump is bad...

that may be possible with there be a lack of oil but the gaskets are leaking up all around the head. The engine was completely cleaned so I know its fresh oil coming out... If its coming out then I doubt its an oil related issue. But I guess there is always a possibility...

And yes I did use a compressor to blow out the carb, I even used a welding tip cleaner to make sure all ports were free and clear during the rebuild of the carb.

then the valve noise is going to be a combination of things.
first, the timing chain tensioner is probably worn out and most likely needs replacement. (very common with these old bikes) next the valve adjustment may need to be had.
the easiest way to tell about the timing chain stuff is to take that rubber stub off next to the engine cylinder, and loosen the nut out while the motor is running. once you have backed it out enough, it will start to quiet down the motor some then tighten it back up. if it still is fairly noisey, you need new guides and at that point may as well figure a rebuild.
