Im looking to upgrade my rear shock on my 200x, the stocker is suprisingly good even for big air but its stiff and id like to buy a works shock for it, problem is they go for 700$ new!!
anybody got a used one? or know where to but a used works shock?
is the newer 200x;s shock (the 86-87 model) better then my 84? will it bolt up?
also i have a nice 84 250r front end on my 200x it works good but i want to make the front end the wide tire for looks, anyone want to trade triples for the older r? trade front axles too?
thanks!!!!!!

find a good shock guy and have him re-spring and re-valve your stock shock to your weight and riding style. you'll be into the rebuild for less than half of what it would cost for a new works shock
86/87 200x shock will not bolt up
as far as the front end i have the triples... but you'll need more than that. you'll need to have the triple clamp holes bored out to fit the larger 83/84R fork tubes. then you'll need an axle from a 200s or something similar that will thread into your 83/84R forks and will fit into the clamp at the bottom. you'll need an 81/82R wheel and hub, and the 83/84R disk. from there, its just assemble.

you can put in a 1983 atc250r shock (not 1984). you will need to follow what i did and prob send it to HRE. You need a special dogbone made to correct shock geometry which i had HRE make for me.
putting a wide front tire on a 200x is pointless. 81-82 tripples are 33mm which is the same as 83-87 200x. 83-84 250r tripples are 35mm. you would need to bore 1st gen 250r tripples. its not a easy job because they have rake built into them. a jig needs to be set up to bore then stright. if you want this email HRE and talk to him about it. He's dont a few sets as well as mine for me boring 200x tripples from 33mm to 35mm for 250r forks.
if you want a wide rear end best way is to use a 1982 atc250r axle. it will bolt in. you will need to run 1 400ex style hub on 1 side and stock 200x on other.

To get your shock set up right for you trailprotrailpro prob gonna be looking $350-400 for a stocker. He rebuilds and services shocks for all of our old honda 3wheelers to our weights and riding style.
the 83 atc250r shock swap is well abover the 350x shock swap and no one has done it but myself. It will yeild 10" of travel for ya on a 200x.
