I have heard that some are better than others, just cant remember model #'s specifically. mikuni, keihin, I dont really care, I like both brands
Right now my #1 choice is a PWK28, please provide some info on what you would (or do) run and why:Bounce

I don't think the PWK will work. It is a 2 stroke carburetor, not a 4 stroke. Back in the day a lot of hop up shops used the 28mm Mikuni flat side, which is still available through places like Niche Cycle and Motorcyclecarbs.com. You'll need to get a manifold that will work with it. DG sells the 26mm Keihin PD that bolts right up to the stock manifold, although it is not a perfect match because the inside diameter of the carburetor is a bit bigger than the inside diameter of the manifold. I'm currently running the Keihin and it works well, although I wish it was a bit bigger.

VM28mm mikuni is what you will need . Mikuni just put them back into production after a long time being discontinued .

Hard part is finding the aftermarket intake manifold .
Also their are a few different versions of this carb but this is the proven one in the link above .

The one Mike posted is the classic choice. If your feeling ambitious, a 28 or 30mm FCR is always good.

I put a 30mm mikuni pit bike carb on my 200x. It bolted up to the stock intake but it had to be port matched to the bigger carb. I also removed the choke butterfly and put epoxy in the holes that that mounted it to improve flow. I also had to change the pilot and main but it uses standard mikuni jets so that's no big deal. A lot of people are not a fan of this carb but I have had very good luck with it. The thing runs well with the carb and I haven't touched it since I jetted it so it keeps a tune. Here's a picture of it before I removed the choke.http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz40/stroberts22/IMG_1505.jpg (http://s811.photobucket.com/user/stroberts22/media/IMG_1505.jpg.html)

Thats an 86/87 X, head, right?
Right now I have a line on a 28 mikuni that my uncle has, he says it's in his garage somewhere... hopefully it will work, if he ever finds it lol

I think the 2 bolt flange is the same on the 83-85 200x.

I dont think that there is any difference, just that 2 strokes need larger jets. for instance, my banshee (4 mil stroker) has 196 cc per cylinder, and has a 155 main jet. My X has 212 cc's, and it like to run on a 130 main. If anyone can prove me wrong, go ahead, I would like to learn if their is any difference.

Another thing that differs with the carb between 2 stroke and 4 is the choke system. Most all 4 strokes use a butterfly type choke, and the 2 strokes use an enrichiner, where basically it opens a valve port in the carb, and gives it more fuel. The 4 stroke butterfly closes when choke is applied, and restricts airflow, allowing it to draw more fuel. Completely different design in chokes, but it will work and improve performance with the correct jetting changes.

2 days of truck work. Tomorrow is clean up day and then I'll look for the carb, it's brand new so it's not just tossed in a box...........

Even my mind is missing.

2 stroke carb has a air screw, 4 stroke carb has a fuel screw.

That is true. However, the 2 stroke carb has been seen modified for the thumper 200X; Ask Mickey Dunlap................

28PE off an early model 250R or CR80 with a standard Banshee needle.

No, stock is 24mm.

Sorry to jack the thread again, Is this for sure? as Ive been looking to upgrade the carb on my 200x for a while now, but when I took it off to clean a week or two ago I measured the intake and its 26mm... and also the intake is (a good) 26mm so I just kinda figured that that was stock?

Stock 200x carb is 24mm , you might have a xr200 carb which is 26mm

yeah I just checked the manual (says 24) I just assumed it was stock as it has PD62A on the side which is '83' according to the book. Glad I didnt buy an XR200 one now! seems to have the matching intake boot/manifold too. Thanks for the reply...
