Hola banditos! Lately ive been thinking of getting an ATC, either a 350X or 250R, and im looking for some wise words on what is more worth it.
I like motocross type riding most, i love air time, but no tracks in my area allow 3 wheelers , the nearest tracks that i think might allow it are 5 hours away, and im not even sure if they do.
So most of my riding will probably be in fields and in woods, ive heard of an area that is kinda like dunes, sandy and hilly (I live in miami so im not so sure how much hill that means...) Either way, i want a rough fast RELIABLE bike.
So does anyone have any opinions? Can a 350X jump ok? Is a 250R very reliable?

Thanks..

Both trikes are good...just what u like but id say my opinion the 250r because of all parts and aftermarket stuff...its a toss up

Im only 18, i dont make much money, i could get enough money to buy one, but how expensive is a 250R to keep running? I would be riding it high in the RPM allot of the time, and how good does a 84 model run?

Well I would say 350x due to the low maintance and great all around trike. But if you are hard pressed for cash, you might find the little brother of the 350x the 200x more to your liking(due to your money issues). But you might get lucky and find a 350x in running order cheap. Good luck on the quest bro..........peace

Well, my dad has a 200X which weve been fixing, so its either the 350X or 250R, i just want something i lttle different, a little more zippity doodah.
How would you compare the cost's of maintaining the average 250 two stroke dirt bike of today to the cost of maintaining the 250R?

And when i look at pics of the trike fest i always see the pics of everyone waiting for the guys with 250Rs because the have to fix their bike, is this just cause 250Rs dont like mild trail riding or are they always like that no matter how you ride?

A budget racer would be an older air cooled 250R. I built this one for around $1000

If your looking for the lowest maintenance costs, and your broke like me...No question. Get the liquid cooled 250r. Especially if your going to be riding at higher rev's the majority of the time...

The liquid r's take a bit more to get initially, but as far as I see it it will pay off. The 350x engine is nearly a 40 year old design, and it shows. The tecate is a good machine as well, but it's reliability can be less then desirable. Thats not to say the 250r does not have problems, it can break down just like anything else. Parts availability is the biggest issue...the 250r has that in spades. Everyone still races 250r's.

You can't go wrong with really any of the high performance mounts. If I were to do it again, I would definently go with the 250r. It handles the best stock by a wide margin, has a fantastic motor that is exceptionally easy to use and maintain, and parts are widely available and fairly cheap (in the scheme of things) compared to to the other bikes.

Im thinking about spending 1,500 to 2,500, is that decent for a liquid cooled R, if not, how good are the sir cooled?

that should cover the cost of a very nice 85-86 R.

i personally have a 350X, but for parts availability, you have to go with the R. lots of part from the 86 are used on the quads and are still available through aftermarket sources. if you keep you eyes open in the next year, the trx 250R aint gonna be worth much after the 450R hits the scene. the motors will start popping up like hotcakes. in the next two years, they wont be worth sh*t. just have patience. good luck in your search.

i say get either a 350x or 250r as a rider. i think the 350x is a little harder to start. at least mine is. the tecate makes a nice show bike in my opinion.
