Okay so the story goes like this. The guy I got this from bought two pristine 86' Big Red's off the original owner who barely used them. First time out with them he lets his buddy take one who ends up taking it right into a tree. This is the one I got. It ended up with a broken front fender, a destroyed front rack and dents on the front of the tank. Besides this there was no other damage. I had the fender plastic welded which turned out great and the dents on the tank you would only notice if you were looking for them as they are somehow perfectly uniformed on each side. The best part is I traded him straight up for a go kart i had. So if anybody has or knows of a good deal on a decent front rack that is all I really need to have her looking perfect again! Thanks guys here are some pics and the go kart I traded him.

The go kart was a Yerf-Dog GX150 with a 7.8hp Howhit engine. It was cool but I couldn't be happier with the trade!

I would be happy too.

Nice trade! Here's a front rack on eBay for a decent price...

The other ones up for auction are 150 bucks...which seems a little steep for a front rack.

I'll be keeping my eye on that one. A little mangled but for the price may be worth straightening.

He still has the other one?

I wonder what it would take to get the other one from him.

Wow that Bid Red looks mint, too bad they bent the forks and tank but that can be replaced or repaired.

Luckily the forks weren't bent a bit. The steering stop was moved but was easily bent back.

That's good! Sorry thought they were, Are you having the tank repainted ? Should be no problem finding a good rack and have it powder coated. From time to time I have seen NOS front racks on eBaY.

Friend of mine just bought an 86 Big Red this past weekend. I have yet to see it in person. He is supposed to bring it in my shop for maintinance work. From what I saw in pics, and what he said, it's near mint. Still has original tires.

I'm still not sure on what I'll do with the tank, I may just leave it the way it is. But ya a decent front rack is next!

This bike deserves to have the tank taken to a body shop and see if the dents can be professionally fixed and then repainted back to oem.

Just my .02 cents but a bike as nice as that only deserves the best and with that being said send the tank off to mike at vintage motor sports - you def get what you pay for which is quality and workmanship

Very nice bigred! Sometimes its a blessing in disguise when these get cracked up a bit, or the original owner gets tossed!! Thats when they get put away and forgotten about! Essentially thats what keeps them mint 25 yrs later! I have come across this quite a few times!! Take your time, and find a nice straight rack, and save a few $ and get the tank repaired when you can. congrats on the stellar trade!

I agree with you. If it had been perfect I would not of gotten it in the trade in the first place . I bought a temporary rack (hate the looks of it with nothing on the front) for $20 that really isn't bad at all which I can run until I find a nice one.

Very nice score, bro! Throw a thread up in the classifieds here & everywhere else for a rack, I'm sure one of our brothers/sisters will be glad to get you what you need, especially when they see/read about your '86!
Best of luck, TGG............

I installed a rack that I can run until I find a minty one. I paid $20 for it mangled. I straightened and painted it up. There are some small dings on the front but everything is straight now.

Doesn't look too bad at all! My friend that just bought the big red brought it in to my shop today, finally. It's actually an 87, is nearly all original, and close to condition of this bike. Just doesn't shine like this one, althought I'm sure it will with some armorall. Tank is like brand freakin new! I'll get some pics up when I get a good camera on it, maybe tomorrow...

Wow that ATC looks like new and clean, not too many like that one. Keep an eye out for a NOS or mint rack, they pop up on eBaY sometimes.

Thank you I'm keeping my eyes open for one. I'll be bringing the tank to a body shop to have the dents looked at next week.
