Davidcz75 9/85 Green Tecate Tank

Dave sent me his Tecate tank a couple months ago and I put the final touches on it today, thanks for your patience.

I am not happy at all with the results, looks much better in the pics than in person. Looks better than how it was but not as nice as the 250r tanks shine.

I sanded and sanded and could not get the stains outs, sanded it in hot water and soap. I conclude the green tanks will only shine up and not get the color back like 250r tanks. :( Unless they are nicer than this to start. I did a red one and it turned out nicer than the green.

I was wondering if you could do anything with the green tanks. Looks like the gas absorbed into the tank and discolored it.

How are the Clarke tanks, compaired to OEM tanks, olor match, fitment? Ive ordered one last week with a set of new maire fenders. Just curious how everyone likes them or not.

I found a place on the net one day that said they recolor vintage dirt plastic dirt bike tanks. I emailed them but never got a responce

No amount of sanding or polishing works on the green tecate tanks with brown staining. The stains come from within the tank from the gas with the vapors that seep through the plastic from sitting. If you are lucky enough to have one without stains always drain the gas from the tank if it sits and use a 2 stroke oil with a green or blue dye to it to keep it from discoloring.

It was white and crusty as many are. It polished up nicely but you can see the stains. Please ignore the decals. They were a failed experiment.
