Hey guys, So I got some time this weekend to play around and tinker with my new but old childhood three wheeler. When I got it earlier this week it had all three tires were flat. The rear tires surprisingly still held air but the front tire is completely schwacked. So I set out to find a replacement tire and wouldn't ya know a local tire store actually had one in stock. I went and picked that tire up and I gotta say it wasn't even remotely round . That thing was a complete bear to mount onto the rim and if I didn't have access to a chettah I would have been up shits creek without a paddle.
Once I got the new tire on and mounted I decided to take a peek at the front brake to check condition and functionality. Aside from being extremely dirty and nearly locked up, I managed to get them nice and freed up, cleaned up and lubed up and they work really nice now after I sanded the drum smooth again. The brake cable I am thinking is stretched out (not sure if that's even possible) but if it is I guess I will be looking for a replacement. Now I got the trike sitting like she is suppose to again and I can move it around without fear of yanking my back out from trying to move that thing with a rotted out tire on the front.
Next I went to see about the condition of the fuel system. I found that the throttle was completely stuck and wouldn't move a lick. I traced it back to the carburetor and found the throttle slide within the carburetor was locked up due to extremely old fuel. I opened the tank and found some of the foulest fuel I have seen in a while but thankfully the tank wasn't damaged in any way in the form of rust (tank was super clean). Once I removed the tank and emptied all the fuel out I went to the carb and tried my best to remove it. I was able to remove it but there was some unexpected carnage, ( I completely snapped the carb to head insulator in half) cause it was that hard. Needless to say my heart stopped cause I thought that may have been one of those obsolete parts but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that wasn't the case.
So I have some parts on order in hopes to hear her running really soon... I did have to see about one thing ( I wanted to see if she would make some noise). I sprayed some ether into the intake to see if she had any other running issues and I am happy to report she fired right up until the fuel was all burned off...
More to come later.....
