Don't get me wrong, I love my 250r and the power is addicting but I am thinking about trading for a 350x. The thing wants to be ridden balls to the wall every where we go but riding with other people gets annoying. They just don't understand the fact that I can't lug around all day. I also understand some of there quads aren't built for constant high speed riding as well. I want something that I can ride fast but ride in first gear if necessary. My next problem is that a decent 350x is practically extinct in my area, just like 250r's.

Nope, you're not insane. You just need one ( or two :) ) of each of them. I get tired of the R every once in a while and ride my 350x's instead. Definitely the better machine for lugging through tight rough trails.

When I opened the thread I figured you would be trading for a four wheeler, but, a 350x is still a trike, and a damn good one at that. I say if you find one worth the same or more than your 250r , trade it.

Believe me, I want one of each but I can't afford anything else right now. I would just hate to lose the power of my 250r but most of the time when riding I am constantly having to aggravate someone by riding faster then the pack or constantly revving the motor with the clutch pulled in to keep the crankcase cleared out. I have more fun riding alone now.

Sounds to me like you need to either trade for a 350, or find faster riders to ride with ;)

I have to switch up every so often and if you cant afford both right now you might as well get one you can enjoy riding with friends. I have been riding my 350x this summer a lot more and if your doing trails and that kind riding I think you will be happier with one over your 250r. They are both great though.

Well, if your jetting is dialed in good you shouldn't have significant problems riding lower speeds. I do it occasionally on my R's (when it can't be avoided! ;)) There is a slow, county trail loop that is about 3 miles to complete I go on with my family. I have done it on both of my R's and never loaded up a plug.

My main concern is the lack of airflow going through the radiators at low 1st and 2nd gear speeds in the tight little trails. I worry more about overheating, especially with the big bore. That's the kind of riding I usually throw a leg over the ol Big Red or 400ex for. The R's like their fresh air to stay running cool....

I,personally wouldnt trade. You will miss the power of the R and once its gone its gone. Find something slow enough and not as high strung as the 250R to ride with friends. I like riding my 85R with my friends because it is the undisputed fastest of the bunch. That in itself is cool.Lets face it, decent 250Rs are getting scarce and really pricey for good ones. Before I get rid of anything I ask myself how hard would it be to replace. Whatever you decide, both are really good trikes that will keep up with or beat most newer high dollar quads. I do have the luxury of choosing between 4 different machines though. Next to the 250R, as much as I hate to admit it,my second choice is an 06 blaster then the 81R or the old reliable 250sx .

Like Ride Red had suggested; Jetting and the right pipe and gear are the key.

I sold my one owner 250R back in 2005 or so, It was going to kill me. I had already came down the driveway pinned 6th gear, hit my backhoe and the girl I was with at that time said "YOUR SELLING THAT!" Given time I'm sure I could have cooled it down buy iy loved to be WOT.

I have rode with many 250R's in various conditions and they lug it all day with a 2 year old spark plug.............

I absolutely love my 350RX and I can be just as aggressive when needed or lug it around.

Having both may be ideal but you may not have the dough. I have various machines for friends to ride because I really only run 1.

I know trading to something slower would be a bad decision. I have no complaints with my 250r, it has always been my dream trike and I finally own one. I am a power junky and this thing has no problems keeping me impressed. Maybe I should just quit talking stupid and my friends will just have to get used to eating dirt. I hate riding slow anyway. Either hang with the big dog or stay on the porch! I am only temporarily broke anyways, the move from Oregon to Louisiana and getting restarted with jobs has just taken a big chuck of my money. I was just looking at the 310 power kit on ESR's website and think I will get that for our anniversary present this winter. I feel like I have committed adultery by even starting this thread. lol

just throw a bigger rear sprocket on there with 1 or 2 more teeth, you can lug it around all day. I did that with my 310 and am currently setting my 500R up for that kind of riding. I have a 40 or 42 tooth rear sprocket on it now to slow her down. I was ripping aorund on my brother 400X when we were at the badlands though, and a 4 stroker has its own benefits too.
