I purchased a KLT 250 today for $350. It runs strong and is a complete bike, but needs a little work. It has pretty much just sat since 96. I plan to put some royal purple max cycle in it, lube the chain, and put in a new plug. I want to clean and rebuild the carb, but I cant find a carb kit for it. I already own a 250sx, This is gonna be a spare/work trike. I have a feeling parts and advice will be hard to come by with this trike.. Thanks in advance if anyone knows about carb kits for this obscure trike.

First time I haven't gotten a reply overnight.. Thinking perhaps a carb kit for another keihn carb may work. I really doubt the seals will be good after sitting for over a decade, so that seems about like the only option. Also Ive heard about mechanical and electric fuel pumps on these, how would I tell which one I have?

Looks like you got a good deal. As far as putting royal purple max in it, i would just stick with standard oil. (non-synthetic). Some may agree and others may not. I would just take the carb apart and give it a good cleaning. No need for a carb kit unless something is wore out in there.

Looks like you can get the o-rings and seals individually from partzilla. Don't know if there complete kits still left out there. Might be worth a call to a Kawi dealer.

Thanks. I run royal purple in everything, I have cases of their various products. This will certainly be run on RP too. I have every atv dealer within 5 miles of my house. Ebay is just my first stop since its easy and cheap. I will pull the carb out and take it apart this week as I have time. I just wanted a carb kit for the seals and needle, I never use the new pilot and jets when I buy one.

An exhaust sounds nice but I'm just trying to keep this atc cheap. It would benefit more from new tires. Also wondering if the light bulb by the key is a neutral indicator? The 1-N-2-3-4-5 pattern throws me off a bit.

Yes, it should be a green light that comes on for N.

So I got the carb off, it looks pretty dirty inside. While getting it off I noticed a few other things. The disconnected blue wire appears to go to the tail light. I'm not sure I want to plug it back in, Ive heard the electric system on these is a nightmare. That wire may be unplugged for a reason. I also noticed the fitting for the fuel tank vent is broken off. I will probably force a hose slightly larger than the hole into the vent opening. And there is a brass fitting in the intake boot, with a hose that goes down to the fuel pump. I suppose that means I have a mechanical pump that uses the intake stroke for suction. It seems slightly loose so I will pack epoxy around the fitting.

Neat! Haven't seen one of those in person in years. Used to know a guy that had one, the front suspension with that hoop around the back of the tire always looked odd to me but it seemed to ride pretty nice. He used it for hauling stuff around his property etc.
Yep you have a vacuum actuated fuel pump. I despised those on the old sleds i used to ride, seems like the diaphragms in them always went bad when you were in the middle of nowhere... LOL.. If parts could be had for the fuel pump i would go through that as well, at least take it apart and clean it would be a good idea in case its got crud in it like the carb.
I'm not too familiar with the electrical system on these, i would have to look at a diagram, just wondering if its got a DC lighting system or AC and if there is a regulator. Reason being, trying to figure out why they unplugged the tail light. Could have just been a bad bulb or maybe a short, who knows. I would just go through it and figure out whats up with it but if you don't need the light maybe its best to just leave it unplugged... LOL

The headlight works fine, I think that wire goes to the tail lamp. I just plan to leave it unplugged. And i will probably pull the pump apart, but first check if I can find a NOS or aftermarket diaphragm. I know from chainsaws, those quite often aren't bad, but taking em out tears them. Ive been wanting a 2nd trike, didnt have much money, and this showed up. Hope it turns out as nice as my barn find 250sx
