voltage regulator needed?

If I don't plan to run lights is the voltage regulator even needed? I'm trying to go with minimal wiring on my build. 2nd gen 200x if that matters.

Not required for ignition. The regulator is strictly for lighting.

depends really, my beartracker swap requires and regulator to run the cdi, no regulator no spark.
