Thanks everyone. I always try to take my boys when I can, that way when I go on my "Big Boys" trips I don't feel guilty. It is a balancing act, but I always win because I get to ride twice as much. My wife never complains when I'm taking the boys.....and it earns me some bonus points with her too...LOL. Besides, if I teach them right, I will have riding partners for life. My dad and I have been riding together since I was a little boy too....he is 73 and still rides.

As for the machines:

The 1985 Honda 250R is a 100% original survivor barn find out of Wisconsin. I bought it from the original owner a few years back. I found an ad on craigslist, and for some reason I decided to call. The ad said “Old Honda ATC for sale.” Nothing else was added. I called the guy and he said he forgot he had it. We have all heard the BS before; however, I pursued it and found a beauty. I got the original helmet, ATC cover and paperwork with it too. The story is this. He bought it new, rode it two years and put it in his barn in front of an old boat. He thought his nephews took it years ago. He sold the farm and then sold his boat….When the boat was moved, he found the ATC under the boat cover and seat cushions. All I did was service it and clean it. It is a VERY nice unit. By the way, I would love to trade it for a Tri-Z or Tecate of equal condition (I would toss cash or NOS Parts in the mix if need be too).

The 1985 Yamaha Tri-Zinger has been in the family since my dad bought it new. I learned to ride on it, both my boys learned on it and several nieces and nephews have too. I plan on restoring it in the future and putting it in the house as a show / conversation piece. I have been collecting NOS parts for about 8 years or so. I have two containers of NOS parts for it. I could build two or three Zingers if I wanted. I just keep buying the stuff when it pops up; I think I have a problem…LOL.

The 2005 Kawasaki KFX 80 is a beast, and is a full mod with Works Shocks, Dura Blue Axel and a big bore motor (Ported & polished, piped, geared, reeds, carb work and clutched). My oldest son rides it now and my little guy just started riding it last month. The Zinger is too small for him now. I’m on a mission to buy my oldest son a 200X and bump the little guy up to the KFX80…..Then I will restore the Zinger. Now my head hurts!

I have several other rides too; however, I didn’t bring them on Sunday. If anyone has a Tri-Z or Tecate they would like to trade for my 250R, or if you have a mint 86 200X for sale, please let me know.

I'm just curious what is the going value of a 1985-1986 200X anyway? I would like to get my oldest son on one ASAP.

1985-86 is two different generations of 200x's. So price will vary, unless you dont mind which generation. In that case i think the 83-85 are pretty much the same.

Thanks for the scoop....I do not know much about the 200X models. Can you explain the differences between the 1983-1985 and 1986 models. Is it worth spending more to get a 1986 model? I don't mind spending more if it is worth it.

Thanks,
Karl (KZR800)

I personally like the 1st gen ones because i own it. I never had a 2nd gen one but they are worlds apart.
1st gen was made from 83-85, parts beyond plentiful because they are all interchangeable for the most part, more aftermarket options.
There is an 86 but there is also an 87. I think they are pretty much different also. So parts can be hard to find.
1st gen was a 5 speed manual, 86 and 87 was 6 speed.
Im on a budget, i dont care about another gear, i like the older color scheme, so i like the 83-85.
But 2nd gen+ is completely different, frame, motor, swinger, plastics, color scheme, everything.
I do like the look of the 87 though, the way the 200x goes from the shrouds to the tank and the rest of the decals.

Thanks for the kind words! I got the 250R for a good price, but not as good as some of the deals I see others getting....LOL.
